Vietnam Open 2015

  • Saketh Myneni clinched the Vietnam Open trophy, his first singles Challenger title of the season on October 18, 2015 with a straight set win over Australia’s Jordan Thompson.
  • It was Myneni’s second singles title at the Challenger level, after winning the Indore Open. With 90 points in pocket for his stupendous effort, Saketh is set to better his career-best rank which is 168.
  • Saketh though ended runner-up in the doubles with Sanam Singh after losing the final to Tristan Lamasine and Nils Myneni has made steady progress as he ended a runner-up at the Izmir event and also played semifinals in Samarkand and Batman (Turkey) events.

China Open 2015

  • 2015 China Open was the 17th edition of the tennis tournament for the men and 19th for the women. It was part of ATP World Tour 500 series on the 2015 ATP World Tour. Both the men’s and the women’s events were held at the National Tennis Center in Beijing (China) from October 5 to 11, 2015.

WTA China Open 2015

  • Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis lifted their eighth trophy of the season and fourth in a row by winning the WTA China Open at Beijing on October 10, 2015. They defeated Taipei girls Hao-Ching Chan and Yung-Jan Chan.
  • It was fourth title in a row for the Indo-Swiss pair. It was ninth title for India’s Sania in the 2015 season and eighth with Swiss great Martina.
  • They had won titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston. Winibjcdon, US Open, Guangzhou and Wuhan before China Opens win.

Hockey

 Sultan of Johor Cup 2015

  • The gritty Great Britain won the 2015 Sultan of Johor Cup under-21 field hockey tournament by defeating defending champions team India on October 18, 2015.
  • Both teams had equaled by 2-2 goals score in regular full, time match played at Johor Bahru, Malaysia. But, India lost it to Great Britain in penalty shootout by 3-4 goals score.
  • Sultan of Johor Cup of Hockey is established in 2011 and was named after the Sultan of Johor, a ceremonial hereditary seat and title of the nominal ruler of the Malaysian State of Johor.
  • The tournament held annually in Malaysia and it is the only invitational junior hockey competition played at international level. India is most successful team in the tournament and has won it for two times in 2013 and 2

Beighton Cup

  • Punjab National Bank won Beighton Cup hockey title first time in history on October 11, 2015 by defeating four-time defending champions Indian Oil Corporation in the final match played at Kolkata.
  • Beighton Cup of Hockey constituted in 1895 and is one of the oldest field hockey tournaments running till date.
  • It is named after TD Beighton, Legal Remembrancer of the government of Bengal in British India. It is organised by Bengal Hockey Association (BHA).
