World Stars of Junior Title 2015

  • Shubham Jaglan, young Indian golfer has won the Junior World Golf Title on July 22, 2015 held in Las Vegas. This is his second successive IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf title in just two weeks.
  • He won with a score of 106 in three rounds to win by five strokes, ahead of two Americans Justin Dang and Sihan San and Thailand’s Pongsapak Laopakdee for the boys 9-10 years category title at the Angel Park.
  • Former golfer Nonita Lall Qureshi has bee training Shubham since he was seven-years old. He was five years old when he started gob practicing in an agricultural field. He has already won over 100 tournaments.

Basketball Current Affairs

SABA Championships

  • India defeated Sri Lanka in the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Championship title at the Sree Kantecrava Stadium indoor courts on July 5, 2015 with a score of 93-44. With this Victory India booked a spot in the FIBA Asian Championship to be held in Hunan (China) later in 2015.
  • India won gold in SABA with retaining its championship while Sri Lanka won silver by leading at second position and and Nepal won bronze by achieving third rank. India has won it 3 times i.e., in 2002, 2014 and 2015.
  • SABA Championship is a basketball tournament organised by the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) in which national teams of 6 countries participate. It is established in 2002. This tournament serves as a qualifier for various International Basketball Federation (FIBA) events such as the FIBA Asia Championship and the FIBA Asia Cup.

Wrestling Current Affairs

Kazakhstan Presidential Cup

  • The eight-member Indian women’s wrestling team has won the silver medal on July 26. 2015 after finished second in the fifth Cup of the President of Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was topped by hosts Kazakhstan with Mongolia settling for the third spot.
  • Teen sensation Vinesh won in 48 kg, Lalita Sehrawat won in 55 kg and Anita won in 63 kg while Sakshi Malik lost just one fight in the 58 kg division. The other members of the side, Nirmala Devi won in 53 kg, Sarita won in 60 kg, Navjot Kaur won in 69 kg and Nikki won in 75 kg.
  • The Kazakhstan tour is expected to boost the confidence of the Indian eves for the World Championship, to be held in Las Vegas, USA from September 7-12, which will also be the first qualification event for Rio Olympics 2016.

Power lifting Current Affairs

US Power lifting Association National Championships

  • Amitoj Chhabra, an Indian-American has won junior title at the latest US Powerlifting Association National Championships in July, 2015. He lifted a total of 1383 pounds at the US Power lifting Association National Championships in Las Vegas.
  • He is a son of a Punjabi father and a Nepali mother. He is a 2013 Galena graduate, competed in the 198-pound weight class, a drop of about 20 pounds from his normal weight. He began power lifting in December, 2013 and began competing in May, 2014.
