Railway Recruitment Board is an esteemed organization of India, which works for nomination of new employees for Indian Railways. There are total 22 Railway Recruitment Board in different cities, they are RRB Bhopal, Gorakhpur, Guwahati,  Jammu and Kashmir, Kolkata,  Malda,  Mumbai,  Muzaffarpur, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Bilaspur,Chandigarh, Chennai, Patna, Ranchi, RRB Secunderabad, Siliguri Hiruvantha-Puram, Ahmadabad,  Ajmer, Allahabad.

  • Establishment of Railway Recruitment Board

With only three members this commission was established in 1942 consisting of a chairman and two other members. It was established for recruitment of juniors ion then known north west railway, it was then known as railway service commission. Commission was introduced with two fold functions of recruiting class iii staff and also tender suggestion to general managers for dealing with appeals from junior staff on disciplinary matters.

  • Syllabus for Railway Recruitment Board

Railway Recruitment Board exam can be divided into five sections, that are-

  1. General awareness: It consists current affairs, major finance & economic news, budget & plan, sports, books & honors, science, abbreviations, important days, national and international organizations.
  2. Arithmetic ability: this section checks math’s covered up to the graduation
  3. Technical ability: it checks the presence of mind of a candidate.
  4. Reasoning ability (verbal): questions are asked from number series, test of direction sense, coding-decoding, number ranking, arithmetical reasoning, age interpretation, blood relations and analogy sections.
  5. Reasoning (non-verbal): non-verbal series, mirror graphics, dice, grouping identical figures, embedded structures etc.

The Railway Recruitment Board selection procedure consist of seven steps that are

  1. First stage online examination(PT – CBT):

All candidates applying for railway ASM, Goods Guard will be called for CBT(computer based test).

  1. Second stage examination(mains – CBT)
  2. Typing test (skill test):

Applicants who qualify for senior clerk, reservation-enquiry clerk, typist, assistant & time keeper will give this test.

  1. Aptitude test
  2. Document verification:

Verification of documents is only for ASM & traffic posts only.

  1. Medical fitness test
  2. Final merit list:

At last concerned Railway Recruitment Board decides merit list based on candidates performance on online examination, aptitude test, document verification & medical verification. In this last list only qualified candidates will be named and they will be soon called for training.

About Railway Previous Question Papers

The question paper has 100 objective type questions. Each question carries one and half marks, with the negative marking of 1/3 for the wrong ones. The paper is divided in four sections general knowledge, arithmetic ability, general intelligence, and general science. First section makes 20 marks, second is of 25 marks, third is of 25 marks and the last one is of 30 marks. The duration of the examination is of 90 minute.

Eligibility criteria for Railway Recruitment Board, the age is between 18-25 for non technical posts and for technical is 18-32 years. Qualification for non technical is bachelor degree, for technical is 12th pass with physics and math’s and also have ITI, Diploma or Degree in Computer Networking, and

Data Networking, Electrician preliminary examination is the common for all the posts. Candidates who pass in the preliminary (stage-I) exam will apply individually for main (second stage) examinations.
