CDS Age Limitations, Application Details and Application Fees, Exam Centres.

CDS or Combined Defence Services exam is an offline exam conducted by UPSC for recruitments in IMA (Indian Military Academy) or IAF (Indian Air Force Academy)or INA (Indian Naval Academy) or OTA (Officers Training Academy).UPSC sets some eligibility criteria for the appearing candidates which they must fulfill to apply for the examination. These criterias are based on the age, educational qualifications etc of the candidate, below are given the detailed information about the eligibility criteria for the CDS exam.

Age Limitations for CDS Exam

Candidate should be not less than 19 years to apply for any academy. The age limit will be calculated as on January 01, 2018.

For IMA – 19 years to 24 years

For AFA – 19 years to 24 years

For INA – 19 years to 22 years

For OTA – 19 years to 27 years

Educational Qualification for CDS Exam

  • For IMA and OTA: Degree of a recognized University or equivalent
  • For INA:Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering from a recognized University.
  • For AFA:Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering.

Note: For CDS exam, applicants can be from any stream but for entry to Air Force and Navy, candidates should have studied physics and maths up to Class 12. Candidates who are studying in the final year degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply for CDS Exam.

Marital Status

A candidate must be unmarried if they want to apply for IMA or IAF or INA. Unmarried, divorced, widowed women can apply for OTA. Men applying for OTA are exempted from this restriction.

Physical Standards

A candidate must be completely fit before applying for the UPSC conducted CDS exam.

CDS Application Details

Combined Defence Services exam is conducted twice each year by the Union Public Service Commission. The notifications for the same are published around November and August tentatively. Candidates who can fulfill the eligibility criteria can apply for this exam. The candidate can apply for the exam by visiting the official website of UPSC. CDS (I) was conducted by UPSC on 4th February, 2018. For CDS (II) refer the information below:

  • The application forms for CDS (II) exam will be available from August 8, 2018.
  • Last date of application form submission is 3rd September,2018
  • There are two parts of exam form Part 1 and Part 2.
  • In Part 1, the candidate is asked to fill up the general details like name, email id etc.
  • The candidate needs to select the preferences for IMA/INA/IAF/OTA on the scale of 1 to 4 with 1 being the highest and the candidate also needs to specify whether the have obtained a NCC ‘C’ certificate or not.
  • The candidate needs to make sure that there are no more changes to be made as they won’t be permitted to make any changes to the information provided by them after submitting the Part 1
  • In Part 2, the candidate is asked to pay the fees by different online modes using his unique ID (obtained after submitting Part 1 of the form) and date of birth.
  • Then the candidate needs to upload all the required documents.
  • The candidate needs to select the exam center of their choice. The exam centers will be provided on the first come first serve basis.
  • After all the process is completed a confirmation page will be generated.

CDS Exam Application Fees

  Application fees for CDS exam is Rs. 200 only ( Two Hundred Rupees only) for General/OBC category male candidates. Female applicants or SC/ST candidates are exempted from the fees for the application form.

Exam Centers for CDS Exam

CDS exam is conducted across the country by UPSC. The exam centers are alloted on the basis of the application submitted by the candidates. The candidates are requested to submit their applications to the earliest as the exam centers are provided on the basis of first come first serve basis. There are various exam centers across the country like Bhopal, Raipur, Bengaluru etc.out of which a candidate can choose his preferences.
