Cracking SSC CGL: What You Need to Know

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a public organization that recruits skilled personnel for various positions in different ministries of the Indian government. This board carries heavy responsibilities, which include:

  • Recruitment to Group C and Group B posts which consist technical/non-technical as well as non-gazetted openings of the government and associated departments. This does not coincide with the recruitment made by the Railway Recruitment Board or other industrial institutions.
  • Rank-wise exams are organized for promotions. Group D candidates are promoted to LDC, LDC is upgraded to UDC, and grade D stenographers are given a shot to grade C stenography. This is done through periodical type-writing tests in English and Hindi.

SSC is the most sought-after recruitment body for their graduate-level employment drive called Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination. It is an open test to recruit competent candidates into group B and Group C posts. Aspirant between the age 20 and 30 can apply for this examination irrespective of their graduation score percentage. The written test is structured into four tiers. Tier-I and tier-II are computer-based multiple choice questionnaires. Tier-III on the other hand analyses the candidate’s descriptive skills through pen and paper tests. Tier-IV is a qualifying data entry skill test that may be applicable to a few posts.
