She attended Notre Dame High School and worked as an intern there when she was a student. She claimed in an interview that at the age of six, she already knew she wanted to be a lawyer. She earned a bachelor’s degree in arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Jeanine Pirro started working at the Westchester County Court in 1975 as an assistant district attorney. She established the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Bureau in 1978 and was chosen to serve as its inaugural chief.

She was chosen to serve as Westchester County Executive in 1986. She declared her candidacy for lieutenant governor in the same year, but she withdrew from the contest just one day before the nomination vote since her husband couldn’t provide the necessary disclosure of his business information.

Her work as a prosecutor was fruitful, with a conviction record close to 100%. She was elected as Westchester County’s first female judge in November 1990 after winning her race as a Republican against candidates from the Democratic and Right to Life parties.
