Jeanine Pirro started working at the Westchester County Court in 1975 as an assistant district attorney. She established the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Bureau in 1978 and was chosen to serve as its inaugural chief.

She was chosen to serve as Westchester County Executive in 1986. She declared her candidacy for lieutenant governor in the same year, but she withdrew from the contest just one day before the nomination vote since her husband couldn’t provide the necessary disclosure of his business information.
