The BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa have resolved co-operation

The BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa have resolved to facilitate movement and exchange of students and faculty in each other’s institutions. The countries have a special focus on areas like energy, climate change, water resources and economy.After a meeting of education ministers of the five countries, a ‘New Delhi Declaration of Education’ was issued on Friday in which a 14-point declaration was signed by the countries. “smooth  strength  of students and scholars and encourage exchange of teaching faculty, especially those working in the areas relating to the six domains identified for cooperation within the BRICS Network University,” one of the points on agreement read. Another important decision taken in the meeting was organizing of an annual conference of the BRICS Network University. The conference would be held in the country of the current BRICS chair, the declaration says.BRICS countries account for over half of the world population. Another key decision made on Friday was to identify a nodal institution within each country and create an institutional network to share ICT policies, Open Educational Resources and other e-resources including e-libraries.In the declaration, the five countries also decided to strengthen the BRICS – TVET (Technical and vocational education and training) working group to develop national reports and undertake various studies. The BRICS countries also expressed promise to work towards shield inclusive and rightful quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Student loans ‘increasing the divide between rich and poor’

The current system is declaring on students being able to supplement their income from family wealth and leaves those from less advantaged backgrounds to struggle, it is claimed. The loans are not enough and they [the Student Loans Company] assume that families will contribute. But families don’t have the amount of money that the state assumes they have.
