Earthquake of 6.6 magnitude strikes central July

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 on Sunday rocked the same area of central and southern Italy hit by earthquake in August and a pair of aftershocks last week, sending already quake damaged buildings crumbling after a week of temblors that have left thousands homeless.


Authorities plead ‘no cracker‘as Delhi air gets fouler

Nearly all the monitoring stations active in the city said that the PM 2.5 and PM 10 were several times above the safe limit of 60 and 100 micro grams per cubic meter, keeping the city air in “very poor” category. This coupled with falling temperature is likely to worsen the pollution level in the city.


India defeat Pakistan, Asian Champions Trophy

India defeated Pakistan 3-2 in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey final in Malaysia; Rupinder Pal Singh opened the scoring in the 18th minute, while forward Affan Yousuf doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. Pakistan levelled in the third quarter, before Nikkin Thimmalah sealed the scoreline in India’s favour.


3 members of Mistry’s advisory council quit from Tata

Days after the Tata’s replaced Cyrus Mistry as the chairman of the Tata Sons group, with Ratan Tata as the new chairman, three other members, who were part of the advisory council of the ousted head, had also quit. The three members are Tata groups ‘Chief of HR NS Rajan, BDO Madhu Kannan, and strategist Nirmalya Kumar.

India is expected to see a significant uptick in mobile subscriptions and connectivity with almost a billion unique mobile subscribers expected by 2020. The Mobile Economy: India 2016’ noted that at the end of June 2016,616 million services in India.


World Bank appoints Kristalina Geogieva as Chief executive

Kristalina Geogieva, a former head of EU humanitarian affairs and vice-president of the European commission ,has been appointed the chief executive of World Bank .The Bulgarian ,who recently lost out in the race to become UN secretary general, will report to the bank’s president ,Jim Yong Kim.


With a suitable conditions Government offers to buy foreign combat jets

India is offering to buy hundreds of fighter planes from foreign manufacturers, as long as the jets are made in India and with a local partner, officials say. In one of the country’s biggest military aircraft deals, a deal for 200 single-engine planes produced in India could be worth anything $13-$15bn.


Bob Dylan accepts Nobel Prize

Bob Dylan has finally accepted his Nobel Prize for literature, the Swedish Academy that awards it has said. Breaking his silence on the win, he said that the prize left him “speechless”. Asked “if I accept the prize? Of course”, the singer-songwriter said in a cell to the academy this week.


The new chairman of IIM-A, Kumar Mangalam Birla

Soon after Naik’s resignation, a search committee to select the new IIM-A chairman was formed. The panel included Naik as its head, with Sanjay Lalbhai of the Arvind Group, Pankaj Patel of Zydus Cadila and D Shivakumar of Pepsico India as members. The HRD ministry has appointed the 49-year-old chairman of the USD 41 billion industrial corporation of Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla as the new chairman of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmadabad (IIM-A). It has been confirmed that Birla, who is currently the chairman of IIT Delhi, accepted the position.
