The Times Higher Education (THE) has released the latest World University Rankings 2016. Oxford University has trapped the first rank followed by California Institute of Technology and Stanford University acquires the second and third rank respectively. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has made it to the top 200, whereas IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi have fixed their position in 351-400 and 401-500 bands. But the star of the region is India, which has 31 universities in the list. Its leading university – the Indian Institute of Science – is fringe  closer to the top 200, claiming a spot in the 201-250 band, its highest ever position and the country has four new entries in the top 800,” said Phil Baty, the editor of the World University Rankings, according to a report in The Indian Express.

Ghana university students demanded to remove Gandhi statue from campus

Former director of the Institute of African Studies, Professor Acosta Adomako Ampofo who led the campaign had advice members of the University of Ghana Council to observe her appeal as honoring Gandhi will set a wrong example for students, as per local media in Ghana The statue of Mahatma Gandhi may be removed from Ghana University due to the ongoing protests by students and academics of the university. An online appeal has also been launched in this regard asking authorities to facilitate “the removal of the statue of Gandhi” at the earliest.During Pranab Mukherjee’s recent visit to Ghana; the president gifted the statue to the university.


China –Pakistan friendship long-lasting

References to Kashmir and tensions arising out of Uri terror attack were clearly absent in Chinese official media coverage of the meeting between China Premier Li Keqiang and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif here. As all-weather strategic partners of cooperation, China and Pakistan have always directly supported each other and their friendship is long-lasting, state-run Xinhua news agency quoted Li as saying while meeting Sharif on the sidelines of UN General Assembly session. China stands ready to increase all-round practical cooperation with Pakistan and is willing to make joint efforts with Islamabad in injecting new momentum into the development of bilateral relations, Li said. While noting that practical cooperation focusing on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has made positive progress, Li advise the two sides to carry out the planned construction of the corridor, accelerate the building of the Gwadar Port as well as its supporting facility, and bring more companies into industrial parks, the report said.

India vs. New Zealand: Former India captains compliment ahead of 500th Test

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) compliment former India Test captains ahead of the historic 500th Test at Green park stadium in Kanpur on Thursday. Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association president Rajeev Shukla compliment  former captains, including Ajit Wadekar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kris Srikkanth, Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and Mahendra Singh Dhoni .The former captains were honored with a shawl, a memento and a coin with the words “500th Test” written on it.
