The marriage of Aegon Targaryen and his sister confirms that their bloodline remains pure and hence more powerful. This is an ancient Targaryen custom that has been practiced for hundreds of years.

Aegon, often known as Aegon II Targaryen, was the sixth Targaryen King of the Iron Throne. He was also the son of Viserys I Targaryen, the fifth Targaryen ruler, and Alicent Hightower.

Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is Aegon’s ascending elder half-sister. As a result, Aegon and Rhaenyra fought for the crown in the civil war. The fight was known as the Dance of the Dragons, and both Aegon and Rhaebyra were defeated.

Why Did Aegon Marry His Sister?

Aegon married his sister because Alicent Hightower, his mother, compelled him to. The marriage is mostly a political arrangement in the monarchy.

The alliance had an important purpose in the House of the Dragon’s civil war.

Daemon and Rhaenyra wedded in House of the Dragon episode 7 to enhance their alliance and power against the greens. During that time, Prince Aegon was terrified of marrying his sister Helaena.

Aegon felt strange marrying his sister. However, Queen Alicent made an essential approach. It played an important role in the conflict.

In House of the Dragon episode 7, Aegon’s brother Aemond acknowledges their sibling’s marriage, claiming that the union will strengthen the Iron Throne and boost their Valyrian bloodline.

Even the Targaryen practice of marrying their own blood will keep Targaryen family members in a better position. Aegon and Helaena are full-blooded Targaryen heirs.

Alicent destroyed Rahenyra’s son and Helaena’s marriage prospects in House of the Dragon episode 6. Nonetheless, if Helaena married Jacaerys, it would have united House Targaryen, and there might not have been a fight for the crown. Aegon’s mother, however, made this impossible.

Phia Saban played Helaena Targaryen in the HBO series House of the Dragon.

Aegon And Helaena’s Marriage Benefits The Greens

Blood played an important role in the House of Dragons saga, boosting the strength of Targaryen’s blood and playing a critical role in the war for the Iron Throne. As a result, after they married and had full-blooded Targaryen heirs, the green party’s legitimate priority shifted.

Furthermore, the wedding brought their family closer together, creating a more robust front for the greens. Furthermore, Alicent believed that they could only trust their own family members better than outsiders. As a result, the marriage of dragon dreamer Helaena Targaryen and Aegon would reduce possible conflict with others.

The marriage of Rhaenyra and Daemon, on the other hand, opposes Ageon’s betrothal. Because the children of the pair have a more powerful bloodline than Aegon and Helaena’s heirs. Aegon and Helaena are part Hightower and half Targaryen in the series.

Aegon Married Helaena Long Before The Civil War

Ageon married his younger sister before the Dance of the Dragons civil war. In the seventh episode of House of the Dragon, the couple had children.

Aegon lamented about having little in common with Helaena during their marriage. His brother Aemond Targaryen, on the other hand, said she was their sister and the future queen of the Targaryen line.

If his mother Alicent had planned their wedding instead of Aegon, Aemond would have married his sister Helaena. The younger Targaryen was aware of his responsibilities and was aware of his mother’s marriage strategy.

Aemond understands his mother’s political strategies and their significance in obtaining the Iron Throne.
