Clark was the lone female on a boys’ youth team when she began playing basketball at the age of five. Despite having interests in other sports, she finally chose to pursue a career in basketball. As a child, she played softball, volleyball, soccer, and tennis before focusing on basketball. Clark began playing basketball for the Ames, Iowa-based All Iowa Attack in sixth grade and continued until she graduated from high school. She helped the team win the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League in 2018 and finish second in 2017 and 2019. Clark began her varsity soccer career at Dowling Catholic, but moved to basketball for her final two years.

She wanted to achieve something great on a bigger scale after that, so she joined her high school’s basketball team to tackle new obstacles. Clark played four varsity basketball seasons at Dowling Catholic High School under head coach Kristin Meyer. As a freshman, she was named to the Class 5A All-State second team after averaging 15.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. She also helped her team advance to the state quarterfinals.

Professional Life

Clark, then a junior, recorded the second-best five-on-five scoring performance in Iowa history with 60 points in a 90-78 victory over Mason City High School on February 4, 2019. With 13 three-pointers made throughout the contest, she broke the state single-game record. Clark finished the season with a state-leading 32.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

On November 25, 2020, Clark made her collegiate debut for Iowa, scoring 27 points in a 96-81 victory over Northern Iowa. She led the NCAA Division I scoring in 2020-21 and set the rookie record at Iowa with 26.6 points per game. She also earned the fourth-highest points per game average in Iowa history in a single season. Clark has the most points by an NCAA Division I freshman since 2000, and he was the only player to have at least 30 points in 12 games this season.

Clark was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week 13 times, a conference record. She collected more Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week accolades than any other player.
