In addition to this, he received his higher education from Columbia University in New York, where he earned a doctorate in organic chemistry.

- After losing to Whitney Osuigwe in the final of the Junior French Open, she came back the following year to win the Wimbledon singles title against Ann Li.
- This victory made her the first American girl to win Wimbledon since Chanda Rubin in 1992. Following her victory at the Grand Slam tournament, Liu ascended to the top spot in the junior girls’ rankings around the world.
- In March of 2015, she competed in a tournament on Orlando’s clay courts that was part of the ITF Women’s Circuit and won her maiden championship at a professional level.
- Liu won a professional tennis tournament when she was only 14 years old, making her the youngest player to do so since Anna Kournikova in 1996.
