Clay had married Lara when he was 25 years old. They spent their honeymoon in the Virgin Islands at the middle of August 2004. In their 18-year relationship, the couple has raised three sons.

He described how the umpire took a 10-minute break for the restroom between half-innings of the game and then called Travis’s son out for batter interference on a play where the opposing team’s catcher attempted to throw a runner out at third base.

In 2001, Clay graduated from George Washington University, majoring in history. During college, he acted as a student basketball manager.

In 2004, Travis graduated from the Vanderbilt University Law School.

He soon started to work as a lawyer in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Tennessee.

He began writing online for CBS Sports 5 in September 2005.

Career

Clay Travis began his legal career in Tennessee and the US Virgin Islands. However, he received significant media notice in 2004 for his blog.

He wrote it while living in the US Virgin Islands.

Travis was a huge fan of the Tennessee Titans, an American football team. However, the satellite TV package required to view NFL games was not available where he lived. He decided to embark on a “pudding strike” to get DirecTV to bring the satellite TV package to the Virgin Islands.

Travis’ pudding strike entailed eating only pudding for 50 days in a row. His proposal to compel DirecTV to carry the satellite television bundle in the Virgin Islands fell through. However, he posted about his experience with a pudding strike, which was well received. He soon found himself in the spotlight of the media.

Travis began writing for CBS Sports in September 2005. However, he did not get any compensation for the first year of his employment. He stopped practising law in 2006 when he started getting compensated for his writing for CBS Sports. While working as a writer for CBS, he also began writing a book.

He released the book after finishing it. Dixieland Delight was the title of the book.

Travis quit his job at CBS to join Deadspin. He went on to work as a writer and editor at Deadspin. Later, he began writing for FanHouse as a national writer.
