Defence Expo 2016 Held at Goa

  • Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, unveiled Defence Procurement Policy during the 9th edition of Defence Expo India-2016 inaugural function held at the Naqueri plateau. South Goa to help in boosting ‘Make In India’ initiative.
  • 1035 companies both foreign and Indian, are taking part in the exhibition. With a total of 510 companies, participation by Indian companies has doubled since 2014 which saw a participation by 256 companies. A total of 490 foreign companies are participating this year against 368 in DefExpo 2014.
  • The exhibition will have live demonstration of air display on March 28 & 29, 2016 at the site which is located adjacent to the Arabian Sea. In all 47 countries are taking part in the exhibition against 30 countries last time.

Coast Guard Patrol Ship Commissioned at Vishakhapatnam

  • The Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) of the Indian Coast Guard ICGS Arnvesh was commissioned at Visakhapatnam by Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral HCS Bisht on March 21, 2016.
  • The 50 m long, 300 tonne FPV is the 16{-t*t}{+h}vessel among the 20 in this category built by CSL. The vessel, which is propelled by triple Rolls Royce Kamewa water jets, can achieve a maximum speed of 33 knots and carries a crew of five officers and 34 men on board.
  • Fitted with the state-of-the-art navigational and communication equipment, including night vision capabilities, its main armament comprise 40/60 Bofors guns. As of now the Eastern Region that caters from Odisha to Tamil Nadu, has 33 commissioned ships, 11 non-commissioned crafts and 15 aircrafts.

‘Iron Fist’ Exercise Conducted in Pokhran

  • The Indian Air Force conducted its biggest day night war exercise iron Fist’ at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan on March 18, 2016. The ‘Iron Fist 2016’ exercise displayed more than 181 aircrafts.
  • The flypast was followed by synchronised multiple aircraft weapon delivery demonstration of precision based bombing by mirage 2000, su 30. Mig 27 and jaguar.
  • After demonstrating the offensive capabilities. Iron Fist exercise demonstrated the multi layered air defence operations of the IAF in a fly past comprisng SUKHOI 30 air craft and indigenously combat aircraft TEJAS which displayed its swing role attack capabilities by delivering laser guided bombs.
  • Besides combat support operations, an array of flying displays shown comprising of acrobatic displays by the SARANGS, SURYA K1RANS. The exercise inched toawrds the close by a awe inspiring display of flare dispensation by c 130 and AN-32 aircraft.
