NSE Started Online Bidding Platform for Gold Bond Issuance

  • To facilitate orderly trading in sovereign gold bonds, top stock exchange NSE introduced online bid collection facility for such issuances on July 11, 2016.
  • An online bid collection facility shall be available to trading members on existing web based e-IPO platform. Bid entry for gold bonds shall be available through single bid entry and bulk upload facility.
  • The bourse has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to act as a receiving office for Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) issuances, So far, three tranches of the bonds have been issued amounting to about Rs 1322 crore.

World’s Largest Spinning Wheel Inaugurated at Delhi Airport

  • The Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Kalraj Mishra unveiled the world’s largest charkha (spinning wheel) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on July 5, 2016. The idea behind displaying the world’s biggest spinning wheel at the country’s busiest airpprt is to highlight India’s quest to foster an egalitarian society as demonstrated by the Father of our Nation.
  • The positioning of the spinning wheel at the departure lounge forecourt will help promote India’s rich cultural heritage.
  • The four-tonne charkha made of high-quality Burma teak wood, is nine feet wide, 17 ft tall and 30 ft long. It was built in 55 days by a team of 42 carpenters hailing from Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

JNPT Became First Port to Implement Logistics Data Tagging of Containers

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Port implemented the logistics data bank tagging of containers, first of its kind facility, which will help importers/exporters track their goods in transit through logistics data bank service on July’4, 2016.
  • An RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Tag) tag would be attached to each container which would be tracked through RIFD readers installed at different locations.
  • This would provide the ‘Visibility’ and .’Transparency’ of the.EXIM Container Movement by covering the entire movement through rail or road till the Inland Container Depot (ICD) and Container Freight Station (CFS).
  • This would help in reducing the overall lead time of the container movement across the western corridor and lower the transaction costs incurred by shippers and consignees.
