Evander Kane is a National Hockey League ice hockey player for the Edmonton Oilers. He is a professional left winger who was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the first round, fourth overall, in 2009. He has played with the Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks, among others. In 2007, he won the Memorial Cup with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
Evander Kane was also named to the West First All-Star Team in 2009 and was a runner-up for the Jim Piggot Memorial Trophy in 2008. During the 2008-09 season, he also set a franchise record for the Giants. Career
Kane was chosen 19th overall by the Vancouver Giants in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft. Due to other Giants players’ international commitments in the World Junior Championships, he received his first WHL call-up on December 13, 2006, for a game against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Later, as part of the Giants’ 2007 Memorial Cup victory, he appeared in two games and had an assist.
Kane scored a double-overtime game-winner to force a seventh game against the Spokane Chiefs in the second round of the 2009 playoffs after the Giants swept the Prince George Cougars in the first round. After defeating the Chiefs in the seventh game, the Giants were ousted in six games by the Kelowna Rockets in the semi-finals. Kane had 15 points in 17 playoff games.
Kane was chosen fourth overall by the Atlanta Thrashers. Less than a month later, on July 20, 2009, the Thrashers signed Kane to an entry-level deal. Kane was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the first round of the 2009-10 NHL Draft. On February 11, 2015, Kane was traded to the Buffalo Sabres along with the rights to Zach Bogosian and Jason Kasdorf for Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux, and a conditional first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
