They have been married for over three decades. They have three children: two sons, Doug and Nick McDermott, and a girl, Sydney McDermott.
At the age of 39, Theresa was diagnosed with breast cancer about ten years ago. She is now collaborating with Cancer Research UK to raise donations for cancer patients.
Greg feels his wife was able to fight cancer because it was identified early. Pink out match is an annual event because of his connection to the condition.

Greg McDermott Wife Theresa McDermott Was Diagnosed With Breast Cancer
Greg and Theresa McDermott were college sweethearts. They have three adult children between them.
Greg’s wife, McDermot (then 39), was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. She is now cancer-free after five years of treatment and medicines.
Fortunately, Theresa discovered her condition early on, and she had her mammogram when it was necessary. When cancer is found early, the chances of beating it are substantially better.
Greg McDermott told 6News WOWT that his wife had her mammogram as she was supposed to, and it was caught early.
The basketball coach also stated that boosting early detection while fighting the sickness is the best way to proceed.
Theresa McDermott Is Associated With The Coaches vs. Cancer Program
Theresa McDermott works as a fundraiser for Cancer Research UK. She has worked for the foundation since 2015.
The organisation is a pioneer in life-saving cancer research, assisting cancer patients in beating the disease.
Similarly, Theresa’s husband Greg has kept the pink-out game going in order to help cancer patients live long and fruitful lives.
Theresa, a cancer survivor, has long been involved in the Coaches vs. Cancer programme with her husband, Greg.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a partnership between the NABC and the American Cancer Society that encourages coaches and communities to fight cancer.
Mrs. McDermott appeared on the radio show Unsportsmanlike Conduct in 2020 to discuss the impact of Creighton Men’s Basketball’s pink-out game on cancer patients, survivors, and everyone affected by cancer.
Basketball Profession
Greg played basketball for his university team before joining North Dakota as an assistant coach in 1989. His team competed in NCCA Division II competitions throughout his stint at the University. Wayne State University selected him as head coach after he served as an assistant coach for five years.
McDermott became the head coach at North Dakota State in 2000. He did, however, transfer to Northern Iowa in 2001. McDermott was the Panthers’ head coach for five seasons, from 2001 to 2006.
Greg relocated to Iowa State after some ups and downs and worked there until 2009. His club won the MVC Tournament in 2004.
Greg has served as Creighton’s head coach since 2010. As a head coach, he has won two MVC tournaments, one Big East regular season, and several additional matchups. The basketball coach was named Big East Coach of the Year in 2020. His overall career record is 528-318.
Greg was punished by Creighton for telling his players to “remain on the plantation.” Shortly after, he apologized.
