India and Russia Signed 16 Agreements

  • India and Russia signed 16 agreements across diverse sectors following delegation-level talks co-chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 15, 2016 in Benaulim (Goa).

Some of the signed agreements are

  • Agreement on cooperation in International Information Security.
  • Moll for expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
  • Shareholder agreement for establishing a Joint Venture to manufacture Ka-226T helicopter in India.
  • MoU for developing smart cities in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana and for developing transport logistics systems for such cities.
  • MoU between Gazprom and Engineers India Limited (EIL) for the joint study of a gas pipeline to India from Russia and other areas of cooperation.
  • Cooperation agreement between Rosneft Oil Company and ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) in the area of Education and Training.
  • MoU for setting-up an investment fund of $ 1 billion by the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
  • MoU for cooperation between Russian and Indian Railways in increasing the speed of trains between Nagpur-Hyderabad/ Secundrabad.
  • MoU between ROSCOSMOS and ISRO on Mutual Allocation of Ground Measurement Gathering Stations for NAvIC and GLONASS.
  • Inter-Governmental Agreements (IGAs) for the procurement of S-400 Air Defence System and construction of 1135.6 series of MoU between India’s Department of Science and Technology and Russia’s Federal Agency for Scientific Organisations.

India and Russia Signed Agreement to Bet-up Agro Irradiation Centres

  • India and Russia collaborated to set-up integrated irradiation centres in India to reduce agricultural losses on October 13, 2016.
  • A bilateral agreement for cooperation in the development of a network of integrated infrastructure irradiation centres was signed between the Indian Agricultural Association, Hindustan Agro Co-Op Limited (HACL) and United Innovation Corporation (UIC), a subsidiary of ROSATOM state Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia.
  • India, according to estimates, post-harvest losses in food Bind foodgrains are around 40-50%, primarily due to insect Infestation, microbiological contamination, physiological changes due to sprouting and ripening, and poor shelf life.

Government Approved MoU with Hungary on Cooperation in Water Management

  • The Union Cabinet approved for signing of a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) between India and Hungary on cooperation in the field of water management on October 13, 2016.
  • It will ehhance bilateral cooperation in the field of water management, on the basis of equality and mutual benefits.
  • This will encourage the development of bilateral relations between public and private organisations concerning water resources of both the countries.
  • Both the countries will get benefited by joint activities and mutual exchange of scientific delegations and experts in the field of water resources development and management.
