Online Portal Launched for Facilitating Trade between India and Iran

  • An Online Portal for facilitating trade between India and Iran was launched on November 16, 2016.
  • The Hind-Iran portal (hindirantrade.org) is a joint initiative of STC and Douman Queshm, Iran. The objective of the trade portal is to disseminate information relevant to Indo-Iran Trade, and to provide an e-marketplace for the buyers and sellers of the two countries.
  • Iran and India have enjoyed deep social, cultural, economic and political connections and relations that have enriched both countries.

India and USA Launched $ 95 Million Clean Energy Projects

  • The USA announced two financial projects worth $ 95 million in India to bring more energy-efficient appliances to rural sector, as part of its efforts to continue the global transition to zero-and-low carbon energy sources on November 15, 2016.
  • The US has committed $ 70 million in Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) financing for renewable energy projects in India; and announced to launch a $ 20 million partnership with the philanthropic sector to bring more efficient appliances to rural Indian villa’ges.
  • This commitment represents the rapid mobilisation of financing under a $ 250 million facility to support up to 400 MW of new solar power projects in India across multiple States.

Israeli President’s Visit to India

  • Israeli President Reuven Rivlin arrived India on November 14, 2016 on a six-day visit to strengthen bilateral ties.
  • Rivlin, landed at the Mumbai airport with a large delegation of businessmen and presidents & senior representatives of Israeli academic institutions, from where he left for Delhi.
  • India and Israel have inked two agreements in the field of water resources management and agriculture. These agreements were signed following the delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in New Delhi on November 13, 2016.
  • The bilateral trade from $ 200 million in 1992 (comprising primarily trade in diamonds) has reached $ 5.19 billion in 2011. Since then, it has stagnated around $ 4.5 billion.
  • The diamonds constitutes close to 50% of bilateral trade between both countries. In recent times trade has diversified into several sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, IT and telecom and homeland security.
