India and the UK Inked Agreements for Collaborations in Crop Science

  • The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and a consortium of top UK research institutions signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) on February 24, 2016. This collaboration builds on the close links already established between leading researchers in the United Kingdom and India.
  • The agreement aimed to enhance collaborative research, promote knowledge exchange, and support capacity building to develop resilience in food security. It also contemplates the establishment of a joint Indo-UK Plant Science Centre in India.
  • The agreement foresees joint projects focusing on the fundamental .science underpinning yield enhancement, disease resistance and drought resistance; research into crop re-breeding; and the translation of fundamental research into sustainable agriculture practice.

India and Nepal Inked Seven MoUs

  • India and Nepal on February 20, 2016 inked seven Memorandums of Understandings (MoU). The MoU were signed during the first visit abroad of Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, after assuming office in October, 2015.
  • An MoU on utilisation of $ 250 million Grant component of GOI’s Assistance package for post-earthquake reconstruction assistance was signed the two Another MoU was strengthening of road infrastructure in the Terai area of Nepal, was signed.
  • Another MoU was signed between Nepal Academy of Music and Drama and Sangeet Natak Academy, India to enhance relations in the field of performing arts through exchanges of experts, exponents, dancers, scholars and intellectuals.
  • There were two letters of exchange on Transit Routes, one on transit between Nepal and Bangladesh through Kakarbitta-Banglabandh corridor and the second on operationalisation of Vishakhapatnam
  • There was also letters of exchange on Rail Transport, one on rail transport from Vishakhapatnam and the second on rail transit facility through Singhabad for Nepal’s Trade with and through Bangladesh.
  • The sixth MoU, which was the inauguration of Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar transmission line was done by both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart.
  • The seventh agreement was the establishment of Eminent Persons Group which was decided to be established at the third meeting of the India- Nepal Joint Commission held at Kathmandu in July, 2014.
