Dallas Goedert: College Carer

Goedert enrolled South Dakota State University as a walk-on and played for the Jackrabbits from 2013 (when he was a freshman, he was given a redshirt) to 2017 (when he graduated).

He finished his career with 198 receptions, 2,988 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns, including two consecutive seasons in which he surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark.

During his senior year, he started all 14 games and was the team captain. He finished the season with a total of 72 receptions, 1,111 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. During Goedert’s time at South Dakota State, he was named to the first team of FCS All-Americans on two separate occasions. Additionally, in 2016, he was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the player who is considered to be the best in the FCS.

Goedert announced his participation in the 2018 Senior Bowl after receiving an invitation to do so after the completion of the 2017 season. However, he sustained an injury during the game’s preparation and was forced to withdraw from the competition.

Between the years 2013 and 2017, Dallas Goedert was a player for South Dakota. During his first season with the Jackrabbits, the Jackrabbits elected to redshirt him.

Dallas Goedert: Professional Career

Goedert was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft (49th overall).

The Philadelphia Eagles moved up in the draft order to take Goedert by trading away their second round pick (52nd overall) and their fifth round pick (169th overall) to the Indianapolis Colts. This allowed them to draft Goedert before the Dallas Cowboys (who were selected 50th overall).

As a result of the retirements of veterans Jason Witten and James Hanna, draft analysts hypothesized that the Dallas Cowboys would select Goedert in this year’s selection because the Cowboys now lack a tight end on their roster.

Goedert was selected as a replacement for Brent Celek, who the Eagles let go on March 13, 2018, and was the third tight end taken in 2018. Goedert was selected as part of the 2018 NFL Draft.
