Jack Billings: Who is He?
Jack Billings is not based on a real person, unfortunately. Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen, the characters’ creators, got the inspiration for Jack while perusing a 1950s car salesman training film.
They were inspired to imagine a salesperson who deceives customers by offering them fake goods, but who also, in some ways, begins to believe his own falsehoods.
This salesman walks a fine line that, if crossed, would upend his entire life. Jansen remarked that the salesman might be “a really strong, extremely captivating, and charismatic salesman who also lived sort of poised over a chasm of insane, fatal possibilities.”
Billy Crudup saw aspects of Jack in the character that reminded him of his own father. The actor admitted that his father “was a hustler basically,” which meant that he could read people, see through them, and tell them what they wanted to hear, was also a salesman.
So, he made the choice to draw from his father’s experiences when it came time to bring Jack to life from the page to the screen.
We learn more about Jack’s job as the narrative progresses. He finds ways to relate to people, which is one of the things that makes him such an effective salesman.

Hello Tomorrow: Review
There are very few funny performances in this retro-futuristic series about a timeshare salesperson for moon homes. The plot is thin, and its pacing is slow. But it looks wonderful.
Apple TV+ strives to be both a weekly release and a binge-watching option in the current media landscape. With regard to new series, it releases the first three episodes all at once before distributing the remaining episodes once a week. It’s an effort to appease people seeking to kill some time while giving iconic shows like Ted Lasso and Severance time to gain a following.
This simply doesn’t work for its most recent series, the retro-futuristic comedy Hey Future! The show’s concept is very powerful. It tells the story of a dishonest travelling sales team that peddles real estate on the moon. With large, flashy rockets and exquisite costumes, it tackles the illusion of the American ideal throughout.
But, you are not left wanting more by the time the three 30-minute episodes that were provided for review have ended. There isn’t a compelling reason why these folks are worth waiting a week or more to see again, nor is there a major cliffhanger that must be resolved.
The start of the show is unquestionably riveting. In the bar of a gleaming American restaurant, Billy Crudup’s salesman Jack Billings joins a dishevelled man and makes a slick sales presentation while wearing a sharply fitted mid-century suit, promising him a better future.
One word is going to save your life, and that word is “Wow,” he pledges, with the tiniest of malicious twinkles in his eye.
The waitress is a robot that resembles Rosie from the classic Jetsons cartoon, and Crudup is specifically selling working-class midwesterners cheap timeshares and permanent relocations to the coveted “Brightside of the Moon,” a luxury that is typically reserved for the rich and famous.
As the scene progresses, more delightful futuristic details become apparent. It takes place in a world (whose year is never specified) of dreamy Americana with roots in the 1950s, complete with black and white TV, neon-sign diners, and intricate stiff hairdos, though it also features hover cars, space migration, and distinctly non-1950s racial politics, where black characters never experience racism and interracial relationships go unremarked.
Next, we see a woman horrifyingly squashed between her garage door and a hovering van that is “driven” by a cheery animated stork.
