What took place at School?

A fight at Towers High School on Tuesday morning led to a temporary lockdown, which messed up the school day and upset parents who say fights still happen at the DeKalb County school.

Even though it wasn’t clear when the fight started, school district officials said that regular classes had started back up at 11 a.m. DeKalb County police also came, but they didn’t tell anyone anything.

Has anyone been hurt or taken into custody?

Officials at the school wouldn’t say anything about any injuries or arrests that were said to have happened. Also, it wasn’t clear what might have started the fight or if the people involved were students or staff.

In front of the school, there was a DeKalb police officer, an ambulance, and three vehicles for school resource officers. A few students were also outside, but by 11:30 a.m., everyone but a few police officers had gone back inside the school.

What did the parent spells at Tower High say?

Lakisha Spells, a parent at Towers High, was worried about a string of recent events at the school that have been posted on social media. When the current problem started, she was at school on Tuesday to talk to the principal about a fight her son was in last month.

Spells says that as she walked down a hallway, she saw a “huge” group of kids fighting, with about five of them involved.

No one was allowed to walk through the halls, so everyone had to lock themselves in their rooms. I don’t know who started the fight.

What did the student’s mom say?

The mother said she tried to talk to the DeKalb County Board of Education about the fight her child was in last month, but no one answered. She said that while her child was eating lunch, he was attacked and hurt all the way up to his waist. He also had a concussion, a broken nose, and other injuries.

Spells said it was “horrific” to see the battle on camera. “My son is 14 years old.” He’s only 100 pounds, but you can see that he’s crying. He feels afraid. When your child is being picked on, you can’t protect him. You can’t do anything. I would fight for him, but I don’t have the strength to do so.

She said, “I don’t like it.” “This is not how I want my son to live. He went to a private college. This is my son’s first year at a public school, and I don’t want him to be like this right now.

In March, when a fight broke out at Towers High School, a lot of students were hit with pepper spray. Students who talked to Channel 2 Action News said that the fight started in the cafeteria because students hit police officers when they tried to calm things down.

What did the head of the school say?

Superintendent Morcease Beasley says that the number of fights in nearby Clayton County has gone up by 200% since the same time last year. He said that they have been so persistent, especially at high schools, that principals told him to tell the public about the problem and ask parents for help, as the AJC has already reported.

In another area on Tuesday morning, there were more police at Kendrick Middle School in Clayton after a 911 call about a gunshot that turned out to be a hoax. Police are looking into the call, school officials said, but they didn’t want to say anything else.
