She earned a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress for her role as Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1967) on Broadway in 1999. In 2003, Chenoweth was nominated for a second Tony Award for her performance in the musical Wicked (2003). In NBC’s The West Wing, she played Annabeth Schott (1999-2006, TV series). She has also appeared as Olive Snook in the ABC comedy-drama Pushing Daisies (2007-2009, TV series). For her role as Olive Snook, she received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2009. She also played Lavinia in Trial & Error (2018, TV series) and Mildred Layton in Schmigadoon! (2021, TV series).
She used to sing gospel music as a child in Oklahoma. She studied opera before pursuing a career in musical theater. In high school, the small performer juggled ballet, opera, acting, and singing.
Chenoweth decided to pursue a career in performance after graduating from high school, eventually getting a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theater and a master’s degree in opera performance from Oklahoma City University.
