She managed to cross the border and enter Sierra Leone with her mother’s cousin, Cyrus, who grew up with her in Liberia.

They stayed in a refugee camp in Sierra Leone for seven years. However, the war reached the camp, and the rebels attacked them, killing Cyrus. Agnes had to flee the country once again, this time with her husband and child, seeking security in Guinea.

In 1998, Agnes and Leroy welcomed their second child, Kwity. Agnes named him after his grandfather.
