They purchased a hockey ABC book. “So they could connect with the game,” he recalled. He believes his grandmother eventually got the book. He told Griffinhockey, “They are now both my biggest supporters and admirers. They now thoroughly like the sport.”
Because of Seider’s talent, his parents had to make a difficult decision when he was still a young teen. Kay and Sabine both left their jobs and their homes in Erfurt to move with Moritz, then 14, when the opportunity to play junior hockey in the Adler Mannheim system came.
They had a lengthy conversation at home when he turned 14, because Mannheim wanted him to come, and he wasn’t ready to leave his parents. He’d already competed in a handful of tournaments with Mannheim at this point.
They were employed as managers of a senior home in Erfurt, Thuringia, a city in central Germany.
When they moved to Mannheim, a city in southwest Germany on the Rhine and Neckar rivers, with their youngest son, they gave up everything. They took a significant risk, but everything worked out in the end. It was a great move for his hockey career because they both had solid jobs and a nice apartment.
Moritz Seider Parents Missed His Calder Trophy Ceremony
Moritz Seider’s parents were on vacation when he was awarded the Calder Trophy for his outstanding season. The defenseman did not miss an opportunity to crack a quick joke about the event.
He was awarded NHL rookie of the year at the 2022 NHL Awards after winning the Calder Trophy and receiving 170 votes out of 195 total. It is an annual honour given to the player who was the most productive in his first year of NHL action.
He thanked everyone who had supported him in his thanksgiving address, including his parents, teammates, and coach, but he had a joke in his back pocket.
He disclosed that his parents were unable to attend the wedding because they had just returned from an extended vacation in Croatia. However, Seider stated that his father considered the holiday to be more important. After leaving everything for their youngest kid, his parents undoubtedly deserve a holiday.

He was then loaned back to Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Due to the delayed North American season caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, he returned to the Red Wings on August 4, 2020, to begin the 2020-21 season.
