On November 8, 2016, he played his first Twenty20 (T20) game for Comilla Victorians in the 2016–17 Bangladesh Premier League.

In the 2017–18 National Cricket League, he and Mizanur Rahman scored 341 runs as the opening pair for Rajshahi Division against Dhaka Metropolis in December 2017. This was the most runs ever scored by an opening pair in a domestic first-class match in Bangladesh.

He scored the most runs (749 in 16 games) in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League in 2017–18.

After the draught for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League in October 2018, he was put on the Khulna Titans team.

He was one of 35 cricket players named to a training camp in August 2019 for Bangladesh’s 2019–20 season. In November 2019, he was chosen to play in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League for the Khulna Tigers.

On 8 December 2020, in the 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup, Najmul scored a century for Minister Group Rajshahi against Fortune Barishal.

Najmul Hossain International Career

In November 2016, he was chosen to be part of a 22-person team that would train in Australia before Bangladesh’s trip to New Zealand. He joined Bangladesh’s Test team in January 2017 before the second Test against New Zealand. He played his first Test match on January 20, 2017, against New Zealand.

In August 2018, he was one of twelve debutants to be selected for a 31-man preliminary squad for Bangladesh ahead of the 2018 Asia Cup. He played his first One-Day International (ODI) match for Bangladesh on September 20, 2018, against Afghanistan.

He was put on Bangladesh’s team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December. After being kicked off the team after the Asia Cup in 2018, he was brought back for the Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series in 2019–20. He played his first T20I for Bangladesh on September 18, 2019, against Zimbabwe.

Najmul started learning how to play cricket at the Clemon Rajshahi Cricket Academy. To get there, he used to ride his bike and walk about 20 km every day.

He first got a lot of attention in 2016 when he played in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, which is Bangladesh’s top club-based List A tournament. In that year, he scored 537 runs and averaged 41.3 runs per inning, which made him a star.
