India Post Launched Commemorative Stamp on Mother Teresa

• The Department of Posts released a commemorative stamp in the city to mark Mother Teresa’s canonisation in the Vatican on September 4, 2016.

• A commemorative stamp is a postage stamp, often issued on a significant date, such as an anniversary, to honour or commemorates a place, event, person or object.

• The decision to release a commemorative stamp on the canonisation for Mother Teresa has been taken by the advisory committee of Philately.

• The Vatican city had earlier chosen Mumbai-based graphic designer Karen Vaswani’s logo as the official emblem for the canonisation ceremony.

Union Government Inaugurated ‘India Chem 2016’

• In pursuit of Prime Minister’s initiative of ‘Make in India’, the 9th edition of the mega event ‘India Chem 2016’ a joint initiative by Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, government of India along with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) commenced on September 1, 2016.

• It is having theme ‘India Chem 2016 -Exploring Opportunities’. The event is a 3 days exhibition and conference with participation from all over the world.

• He released the Handbook on ‘Indian Chemical Industry’ and launched the PCPIR Logo & website at the inauguration.

Union Government Constituted Expert Committee to Study Silt in Ganga in Bihar

• The Union government constituted an expert committee of four members to study the silt in the river on September 1, 2016. The team instructed to submit its report within 10 days.

• Member of Ganga Flood Control commission AK Sinha has been made Chairman of the committee. Other members are Chief Engineer of Central Water Commission SK Sahu, Prof, of IIT, AK Gosain and members of National Disaster Management Authority Dr. Rajnish Ranjan.

• It is suggested that Union government should frame National Silt Policy to sort out various problems related to rivers throughout the State.
