Eurocup Formula Renault
De Vries switched to single-seaters in 2012, and R-ace GP gave him a seat in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. 2013
The following year, for his second season in the series, de Vries switched to Koiranen GP, winning one race each at the Hungaroring and the Circuit de Catalunya, and finishing fifth in the championship.
2014
In 2014, De Vries remained with Koiranen and competed in the Eurocup for the third time. He won six races and finished on the podium in 11 of the 14 races he entered. He won the championship by a wide margin over second-place finisher Dennis Olsen. He outscored Olsen by 254 points. He also competed in the entire Alpine Formula Renault season. He won 10 of the 14 races he entered, and he only finished outside the top three twice.
Renault Formula 3.5 Series
De Vries switched to racing for DAMS in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2015. He was on the podium five times before winning the season finale at the Circuito de Jerez. He finished third in the final standings with 160 points, just behind Oliver Rowland and Matthieu Vaxivière.
De Vries competed in the GP3 Series for ART Grand Prix in 2016. He finished third at the Red Bull Ring, his first podium finish. He got his first pole in Budapest. 2017
De Vries debuted in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Rapax in 2017.

2018
De Vries joined Prema Racing for the 2018 season to work with Sean Gelael. His season started off slowly. He only appeared on the podium twice in the first third of the season, putting him far behind his title rivals. De Vries won his first race of the season, a sprint race at Le Castellet. After that, he didn’t score any points in Austria and finished outside the top five at Silverstone twice. However, the Dutch driver’s performance improved after that, and he won the main races in Hungary and Belgium. Despite taking his sixth podium of the season in the main race in Sochi, de Vries did not finish in the top three in the standings. Alex Albon and Lando Norris defeated him by ten and seventeen points, respectively.
2019
De Vries and ART Grand Prix will compete in the 2019 Spielberg Formula 2 race.
In 2019, de Vries returned to his old team, ART Grand Prix, where he worked with Nikita Mazepin, the 2018 GP3 runner-up. His season began well, with a podium finish in Baku and a sprint race victory in Barcelona. Following that, he won from the pole in Monaco and the main race at Le Castellet to take the championship lead. De Vries had one hand on the trophy after two third-place finishes at the Red Bull Ring, one podium finish each at Silverstone and Budapest, and two more third-place finishes at Monza. De Vries was mathematically crowned Formula 2 champion after winning his fourth and final race of the season at the penultimate race in Sochi.
FIA World Endurance Championships
On March 15, 2018, De Vries joined Racing Team Nederland to compete in the LMP2 class. With this team, he won the Fuji 6 Hours on October 6, 2019. It was their first victory in this category. De Vries completed the race by driving the final leg.
De Vries was announced as the test and backup driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH on July 6, 2020, testing the Toyota TS050 Hybrid and the Toyota hypercar as part of his job.
During the test week leading up to the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ACO refused to allow Philippe Cimadomo, who drove for TDS Racing x Vaillante, to compete. Because he was a backup driver for the Toyota Hypercar team, he was already on the track. 2019-20 Seasons
On September 11, 2019, it was announced that De Vries, along with Stoffel Vandoorne, would be driving for the new Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team for the 2019-20 Formula E season. This came after he was unable to secure a Formula One seat for the 2020 season.
