Racing career Of Rico Abreu

Abreu started racing dirt bikes, but after seeing an Outlaw kart race in Vallejo, California, he switched to shifter karts. He received his first Outlaw kart when he turned 15 years old. His father built an 18th-mile asphalt oval in his backyard to support his son’s career.

Abreu made his Outlaw kart debut on January 24, 2009, at Lakeport Indoor Speedway, finishing fourth, and won his first Outlaw race at Cycleland Speedway. Local driver Kyle Larson met Abreu during the year at a charity karting event held at Abreu’s backyard oval and introduced him to sprint cars in 2011.

During the year, he competed in his first World of Outlaws sprint car race and made his Chili Bowl Nationals debut. He went on to win the 360 Winged Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year award in 2011.

Abreu raced in the USAC National Midget Series in 2012, winning Rookie of the Year and qualifying for the Chili Bowl A-main. The following year, at Angell Park Speedway, he won his first USAC National Midget race.

In addition to the Belleville Midget Nationals, he won the Johnny Key Classic at Ocean Speedway, the 4 Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway, and the USAC Gold Crown at Tri City Speedway in 2013. He won his first WoO race at Thunder Bowl Raceway in 2014, and he later won the USAC Honda Midget Series national championship.

Abreu returned to the Chili Bowl on January 17, 2015. He passed last year’s winner, Bryan Clauson, on lap 26 and held off four-time Chili Bowl winner Kevin Swindell to win.

Abreu was reported to be leaving ThorSport Racing due to sponsorship issues on January 11, 2017. He did, however, rejoin the team for a one-time appearance in Eldora.

2015
