Ryan Poehling played hockey alongside his parents, Kris and Tim Poehling, who are huge hockey fans. Poehling grew raised in a family of athletes.

Ryan is an American professional ice hockey player who now plays for the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Furthermore, he has represented Team USA in significant tournaments such as the World Junior Championship.

Teddy Blueger, his teammate, had been injured, and his absence from the squad allowed Poehling to be named to an NHL roster to play for the first time in his four-year NHL career. He had appeared in 17 games for the Penguins as one of 11 players.

Poehling entered the club as a centre, but in the last two games, he converted to wing, on the fourth line, and scored in front of his family.

Ryan Poehling grew up in Lakeville, Minnesota, with his parents Kris and Tim Poehling. His family enjoys ice skating and hockey.

Poehling’s father, Tim, and mother, Kris, are the driving forces behind the three brothers’ hockey success. They first introduced hockey to these three brothers and constantly encouraged them to play.

Ryan was not a terrific skater and did not want to be one as a child. Kris escorted him to the rink, but he refused to skate.

He trained for two or three months because his mother wanted him to skate on the ice. Poehling afterwards enjoyed skating and appreciated his mother for her efforts in training him.

Ryan Poehling’s older brothers, Jack and Nick Poehling, are both American ice hockey players. They began playing hockey when they were quite little.

Ryan was a different kind of skater than his brothers, Jack and Nick. They also taught Poehling how to play ice hockey and were teammates on the second-ranked St. Cloud State team.

Following in the footsteps of his brothers, he enrolled in St. Cloud State University for additional study. Three boys made their parents pleased by making the university squad.

According to Bob Motzko, the Could state coach, one of the brothers was hurt during the game and came off the ice; one went straight to make sure his sibling was well.

Timeline

2019

Poehling signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Canadiens on March 31, 2019, and will be with the team for the rest of the season. Poehling got a hat trick in his NHL debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 6, 2019, becoming the first Canadiens player to do so since Alex Smart on January 14, 1943. This was followed by a goal in the shootout, which gave the Canadiens the victory.

2018

Prior to the 2018-19 season, Poehling attended the Canadiens 2018 Development Camp, but he elected to return at St. Cloud State for his junior year in order to compete for the national championship.

Poehling collected three points to assist Team USA win the bronze medal at the 2018 World Junior Championships.

Poehling was picked to Team USA’s squad for the 2019 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships on December 24, 2018. On December 30, 2018, Poehling scored a natural hat-trick and one assist against Team Sweden to help close a 4-0 deficit and force overtime.

Despite Team USA’s gold medal round loss to Team Finland, Poehling was awarded tournament MVP and best forward. He finished with eight points (5G, 3A) in six games.

2016

Poehling appeared in 35 games and scored 13 points as a freshman for St. Cloud State. Along with his siblings, he was awarded to the 2016-17 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team. The Montreal Canadiens selected Poehling in the first round, twenty-fifth overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Poehling had a solid sophomore year at St. Cloud State. He scored 31 points in 36 games to help his team win the NCHC regular season. Poehling scored the game-winning goal in St. Cloud’s 4-2 victory over the Denver Pioneers, helping the team win the Penrose Cup as regular-season champions.

CAREER HONORS & AWARDS

2015

Poehling was picked first overall by the Lincoln Stars in the 2015 USHL Draft after two seasons at Lakeville North High School. After finishing his high school season, he joined the Stars for the 2015-16 season.

Poehling revealed in May 2016 that he had graduated from high school early and had registered with St. Cloud State University for the 2016-17 season. He indicated that his decision was influenced in part by his brothers’ commitment to St. Cloud.
