He is one of the children that were born to Loretta Steichen (born in May 1954) of El Dorado hills, California and John Steven Steichen (born in January 1951) of Boise, Idaho. His mother was born in May 1954, while his father was born in January 1951.
It would appear that coach Steichen has two brothers whose names are Sean and Steven. Steven, who is a wonderful husband to Brandi and a wonderful father to their two boys.
A graduate of PennWest California with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Sports Management and Exercise, Steven is currently employed as a teacher at Oak Ridge High School and as a Speed and Agility coach at Pure Athletics.
Prior to that, he worked as a personal trainer at Gold’s Gym and as a sprint coach at Granite Bay High.
Prior to his time at Boise State, punter Sean Steichen (born in August 1981) honed his skills at Oak Ridge high school. Petra Inc. employs Sean, a project engineer who lives in Boise and works for the company.

The Indianapolis Colts have announced that Shane Steichen will be the new head coach for the 2023 NFL season. The decision comes after a long and thorough search that lasted over a month and included over a dozen candidates. - His best game was his senior year, when he came off the bench at the end of the first quarter and tied a UNLV record by throwing five touchdown passes in regulation time during a game against New Mexico at Sam Boyd Stadium on October 14, 2006.
