Forty-seven-year Shanna Whan, once sober, has recovered fully and becomes the Australia Local Hero 2022.
The woman went from being a drunk woman in a small town to winning the Australian of the Year Local Hero Award for her work to raise awareness about alcohol.
On Australia Day, the woman, who was thought to have died in 2014, was brought up on stage by the prime minister for her seven years of work.

Shanna Whan is on her forty-seventh year of landing on Earth. She was found unconscious at the bottom of the stairs with a cut over one eye, bruises, and blood all over her body.
At the time, she was 39 years old. The woman was on a solo trip when she met a man who changed her life and the way people in the bush relate to and talk about alcohol.
Even though Whan had tried and stopped drinking alcohol before, she did it again. She left a family party with nothing to look forward to and three bottles of wine.
Her main goal in life is to stay alive, so winning the title was a big bonus.
