Frank Daniel Gilroy

  • An American playwright, screenwriter, film producer and director Frank Daniel Gilroy, has paased away on September 14, 2015 at the age of 89. His best-known Broadway drama. The Subject Was Roses, led to a movie adaptation.
  • The Subject Was Roses, won him a Pulitzer Prize in 1965. He had written screenplay for a 1968 film adaptation starring Albertson and Patricia Neal which was earned both actors Oscar nominations, resulting in a win for Albertson.

Ramaswamy R. Iyer

  • Renowned water policy expert Ramaswamy R. Iyer passed away in New Delhi on September 9, 2015 at the age of 85. He was well-known for drafting India’s first National Water Policy in 1987.
  • He was born in October, 1929, in Thakkalai, Tamil Nadu. He produced a rich body of commentary on water policy and environmental issues.

Kalamandalam Satyabhama

  • A Mohiniyattam classical dancer, teacher, and choreographer Kalamandalam Satyabhama, died on September 13, 2015 at the age of 77.
  • She was the pioneer who accorded Mohiniyattam a well-knit structure for the first time. Satyabhama debuted on major stage in 1955, during the silver jubilee of the Kalamandalam, in front of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • She had published a treatise on Mohiniyattam in Malayalam, i.e., Mohiniyattam—History, Techniques and Performance.
  • She was awarded with Padma Shri in 2014, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in 1976, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1994, Kerala government’s Nruthya Natya Puraskaram in 2005 and Kalamandalam Award in 1988 etc.

Aadesh Shrivastava

  • Music composer Aadesh Shrivastava has died on September 5, 2015 at the age of 51. Aadesh is best known for his work in films like Chalte Chalte, Baghban and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. His last project as a music composer was recently released Welcome Back.
  • He had scored music for over 100 Hindi films as composer, playback singer and music director.
  • He had delivered chart busters like Haathon Mein Aa Gaya Jo Kal, Kya Ada Kya Jalwe Tere Paro, Sona Sana, Gustakhiyaan, Shava Shava, Gur Nalon lshq Mitha, Mora Piya

Dr. Wilfred de Souza

  • Former Goa Chief Minister Dr. Wilfred de Souza passed away on September 4, 2015 at the age of 88.
  • He was a reputed surgeon, master political strategist and efficient administrator.
  • De Souza was born to Alina Ana Maria de Souza and Dr. Tito Fermino de Souza in Kampala, Uganda, on April 23, 1927.
  • He had done a double Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) from Edinburgh) and London.
  • He also had served as Deputy Chief Minister of Goa in the Congress led coalition government from February, 2005 to June, 2007.

Kartik Chandran

  • Indian-American environmental engineer Kartik Chandran as on September 29, 2015 has been named as 2015 MacArthur Fellow and given a ‘genius’ grant of $ 625000 for working on a novel solution to the world’s need for food, clean water and energy.
  • Chandran deals with wastewater treatment with the goal of producing useful resources such as fertilizers, chemicals and energy sources, in addition to clean water in a way that takes in account the climate, energy and nutrient challenges being faced today.

MR Poovamma/ Babita Kumari

  • Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal conferred Arjuna Award 2015 to MR Poovamma in Athletics and Babita Kumari in Wrestling on September 29, 2015 at New delhi.
  • Both awardees received statuette, certificate and award money of Rs 5 lakh each. MR Poovamma and Babita Kumari could not receive the Arjuna Award from President of India on August 29, 2015 as both of them were abroad due to professional commitments.
  • It is given by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The award carries a Bronze statuette of Arjuna, a scroll and a monetary award of Rs 5 lakh.
