National Humanities Me 2014

  • The White House awarded ten distinguished recipients the 201 National Humanities Medal on September 10, 2015. President Barack Obama conferred the medals in a ceremony in the East Room.

24th Vyaas Samman

  • Kamal Kishore Goenka, an eminent Hindi writer was conferred with the prestigious 24th Vyaas Samman for 2014 on September 22, 2015 for his work ‘Premchand ki Kahaniyon ka Kaal Kramanusaar Adhyayari.
  • His work is a critical analysis of the work by Hindi literature’s towering the giant Munshi Premchand. He was awarded a citation along with a cash amount of ? 2.5 lakh by eminent Hindi writer Prof. Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari.
  • The award is given annually for an exceptional contribution made by Hindi writers towards the language. The work must be within the last ten years. The award is constituted by the KK Birla Foundation in 1991.

Jnangarima Manad Alankaran Award

  • Eminent Urdu litterateur Shamim Hanfi was conferred the Jnangarima Manad Alankaran on September 20, 2015. He is best known for his books on criticism like ‘Jadidiyat ki Falsafiyani Asas’, ‘Ghazal Ka Naya Manzarnama’ and ‘Infiradi Shaoor aur Ijtemai Zindagi’.
  • Hanfi hailed from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He was presented with a Saraswati statue, a silver citation and a shawl. He will also receive a stipend of ? 11000 per month for the next one year from Bharatiya Jnanpith.

Nansen Refugee Award 2015

  • Afghan refugee teacher Aqeela Asifi has won the 2015 UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award in the recognition of her brave and tireless dedication to education for Afghan refugee girls in the Kot Chandana refugee village in Mianwali, Pakistan, while herself overcoming the struggles of life in exile.
  • Asifi is a former teacher who fled from Kabul with her family in 1992, finding safety in the remote refugee settlement of Kot Chandana. Asifi was dismayed by the lack of schooling for girls there.
  • Despite minimal resources and significant cultural challenges, Asifi has guided a thousand refugee girls through their primary education.

Gandhi Peace Prize 2014

  • President Pranab Mukherjee presented the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2014 to Indian space agency ISRO on September 9, 2015 for its contribution in development of space technology and satellite-based services. The prize carries ah award of ? 1 crore, a plaque and a citation.
  • ISRO has been involving in designing people-centric space programmes to support various national priorities such as food and water security, sustainable environmental practices, conservation of resources, livelihood support, poverty alleviation, rural prosperity, education and health care and disaster management.
  • Gandhi Peace Prize constituted in 1995 by Union government of India as a part of the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi.
