Shahid Afridi

  • Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi announced his retirement from international cricket, ending an illustrious and sometimes controversial 21-year career on February 20, 2017.
  • He had already quit Tests in 2010 and ODI cricket after the 2015 World Cup but still skippered thie Pakistan Twenty20 team at the 2016 world championships in India.
  • He stepped down as captain after the. tournament although he retained his slender hopes of continuing his career jai the sport’s shortest format as a player.
  • Afridi finishes his international career having played just 27 Test matches which yielded 1176 runs with a highest score of 156 and 48 wickets.
  • Ho played 398 one-day internationals with 8064‘runs, a highest score of 124, while taking 395 wickets with his leg spin.
  • His Twenty20 international career saw him play 98 matches with 1405 runs and 97 wickets.

Viral Kohli

  • Virat Kohli became first Indian sportsman to ink Rs 100 crore deal with Puma onFebruary 19, 2017.
  • Kohli’s endorsement deal with the German company involves a fixed payment and royalty depending on the brand’s business performance.
  • PUMA SE, branded as PUMA, Is a German multinational company that designs and manufactures athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories, headquartered in Hcrzogcnaurach, Germany.

Kumar Sangakkara

  • Former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara became the second Asian, after Mahela Jayawardene, and 16th overall to feature in 1000 matches across all forms of the game.
  • Sangakkara achieved the feat after featuring for Karachi Kings against the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League.
  • Out of the 1000 matches, Sangakkara played 587 for the Sri Lankan team.

Nasir Jamshed

  • Batsman Nasir Jamshed suspended from all forms of cricket for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) anti-corruption code on February 15, 2017.
  • The 27-year-old has played in two Tests, 48 one-day internationals and 18 Twenty20 matches for Pakistan.
  • In his debut against Zimbabwe, he opened the batting and smashed 61 off just 48 deliveries which sa w him win the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
  • In his second ODI, he hit 74 off 64 balls, becoming only third Pakistani to make consecutive half centuries in first and second matches.

Usain Bolt

  • World’s ‘greatest’ sprinter Usain Bolt won the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ trophy for a record-equalling fourth time, while gymnast Simone Biles clinched the top honour in the women’s category at the Laureus World Awards at a glittering ceremony on February 14, 2017.
  • The Laureus World Sports Awards Is an annual award ceremony honoring remarkable individuals from the world of sports .along with the greatest sporting achievements throughout the year.
  • It was established in 1999 by Laureus Sport for Good Foundation founding patrons Daimler and Richemont and supported by its global partners Mercedes-Benz and IWC Schaffhausen. The first ceremony was held on May 25, 2000 in Monte Carlo.
