Asian Championship

1) Seasoned Indian luger Shiva Keshavan won a silver medal at the Asian Championship at Nagano, Japan on December 27, 2015. The first place was claimed by Japan’s Hidenari Kanayama, and 3rd by Korea’s Dong Hyeon Kim.

2) Shiva will continue the season by participating in three of the remaining World Cups, all to be held in-Germany. Shiva had won two gold, a silver and two bronze medals in the previous editions of the event.

3) Luge is one of the three Olympic sliding winter sports. It is the fastest and most dangerous sports on ice and is part of Winter Olympics programme since 1964.

Bjorn Isberg

1) Sweden’s Bjorn Isberg was appointed as the tournament director on December 30, 2015 while Andy Mair from Scotland was named as the umpire’s manager for the fourth Hockey India.League (HIL).

2) Coal HIL, the flagship event of Hockey India (HI) and sanctioned by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), is scheduled to be held across six venues across the country from January 10 to February 21, 2016.

3) The tournament will witness six franchises Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Delhi Waveriders, Kalinga Lancers, Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Dabang Mumbai and defending champions Ranchi Rays battling for supremacy in the richest field hockey league in the world.

Brendon McCullum

1) New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has confirmed on December 21, 2015 that he will retire from all forms of international cricket viz., tests, ODIs and twenty20 following the Test series against Australia in early 2016.

2) Brendon McCullum hailed from Otago made his debut in 2001 against Australia at Sydney. Till now, in one day matches he had scored 5909 runs from 254 matches which includes 5 centuries and 31 half-centuries and 258 catches. He did 15 stumpings as a wicket keeper.

3) He had successfully captained the New Zealand team in its first ever ICC Cricket World cup final in 2015 against Australia. He had played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise till 2014 in IPL and picked up by Rajkot for 2016 and 2017 editions.

Anirban Lahiri

1) Anirban Lahiri became the fourth Indian to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit title on December 14, 2015. He was declared the new Asia No. 1 for 2015, as his lead on the money list has swollen to over $ 600000 with one event remaining in the season.

2) Earlier in 2015, he had on the European Tour secured two wins in the co-sanctioned (European and Asian Tours) Maybank Malaysian Open and Indian Open to reach a career-high 33 in the world rankings.

3) He recorded five more top-10 finishes, including a fifth place at the PGA Championship, the best result by an Indian at the Majors.

Deborah Herold

1)  Deborah became the first Indian female cyclist to be ranked fourth in the world as on December 11, 2015 according to the World Elite Women Ranking issued by cycling world body UCI for the 500 m time trial event.

2)At the Track Asia Cup held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium velodrome, her three medals were critical to India finishing third, with 11 medals. When she was 9 years old, she spent a whole day on a tree when tsunami struck the Car Nicobar base.

3) The Indian team has improved its world ranking to No. 13, making it the highest-ranked Asian country in the 500 m time trial. China are ranked 15.

Carolina Marin

1) All England and World champion Carolina Marin crossed Indian ace Saina Nehwal and won the Female Player of the Year award from BWF President Poul-Erik Hoyer in Dubai on December 7, 2015.

2) Marin, who won five World Superseries titles, held off competition from China’s Zhao Yunlei, Saina and China’s Bao Yixin. China’s Chen Long retained the Mai Player of the Year award that he won in 2014.

3)The BWF Player of the Year awards were given at the Players’ Reception and Gala Dinner, held in honour of the assembled players, sponsors, officials and other guests to the Dubai Superseries Finals.
