Copa America Centenario 2016
- Chile beat Argentina in Copa America shootout for second successive year on June 27, 2016. Copa America, formerly known as the South American Football Championship, is an international men’s football tournament contested between national teams.
- It is the oldest international continental football competition. The competition determines the continental champion of South America. Since the 1990s, teams from North America and Asia have also been invited to participate.

European Grand Prix 2016
- Nico Rosberg won the inaugural F1 race in Baku on June 19, 2016.
- Earlier, he won the 2005 GP2 Series for the ART team, having raced in Formula 3 Euro Series previously for his father Keke Rosberg’s racing organisation Team Rosberg.
- Rosberg entered Formula One in 2006 with Williams, the team with which his father had won the 1982 championship.
- The race was the eighth round of the 2016 season, and marked the twenty-third running of the European Grand Prix as a round of the Formula One World Championship.
- It was the first time that the race has been held at the circuit and the first time that a Grand Prix has been held in Azerbaijan.
