World’s Largest Single Rooftop Solar Plant Inaugurated in Amritsar

  • Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on May 17, 2016 inaugurated a solar power plant in Amritsar which the government claimed was the world’s largest single rooftop facility.
  • The plant has the capacity to produce 11.5 MW electricity 6- solar panels spread over 82 acres on eight rooftops of sheds. The project will generate 27 million units of electricity per annum, enough to cater to the electricity needs of approximately 8000 households.

Odisha Government Launched Green Passage Scheme for Orphan Students

  • The Odisha government on May 17, 2016 launched Green Passage scheme for orphan students to ensure that they get free of cost higher education in the State. As per the scheme, orphan students pursuing higher education from Plus-II level to post-graduation level, will no longer have to bear the education expenses.
  • Many orphan students will be exempted of admission fee, tuition fees, laboratory fees for higher studies and hostel facilities and food.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism won ‘Best Indian Destination for Wildlife’ Award

  • Madhya Pradesh Tourism (MPT) received the ‘Best Indian Destination for Wildlife’ award by the Lonely Planet Group on May 10, 2016.,
  • Actress Amy Jackson presented the award to MPT at a function in Mumbai. On behalf of MPT Chairman, his Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Vinod Kumar Amar received the award. Madhya Pradesh has 25 wild life sanctuaries including nine National Parks. Lonely Planet is the largest travel gqide publisher in the world.

Gujarat Government Announced its ‘Agri Business Policy 2016’

  • Chief Minister Anandiben Patel announced its ‘Agri Business Policy 2016′ on May 10, 2016; It aims at increasing fanners’ income by strengthening agriculture-related infrastructure and promoting food processing industry.
  • Its major emphasis on promoting food processing industry, applying new techniques to convert agriculture waste into value-added products and developing the entire value chain of exporting locally grown farm produces.
  • The projects related to cold chain, food e-radiation, packaging houses and food parks will get 25% subsidy in the limit of Rs 5 crore, on the total cost of establishment of any such unit.
