Selanne and his wife welcomed their second son, Eetu Selanne, on November 12, 1997, in Coto de Caza, California.

Eetu, like his older brother and father, is an ice hockey player who has participated in 14 games and recorded one assist this season. He made his collegiate debut against Sacred Heart before scoring his first varsity point with assistance against Boston College.

Eetu Selanne, a teenage forward, has signed a professional trial contract with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers that will begin on October 20, 2022. He spent two years at Northeastern University and three years at Harvard University.

Over the course of two seasons, he appeared in 103 games for Madison (USHL), scoring 12 goals and assisting on 18 others.

Teemu Selanne, a retired NHL winger, and Sirpa’s youngest son, Leevi, graduated at Santa Margarita Catholic High School on June 2, 2018.

In 2018, Leevi Selanne, who began his ice hockey career at Curry College, scored the game-winning overtime goal for his high school hockey team.

At the USA Hockey National High School Championships in Minnesota, Santa Margarita (CA) and Regis Jesuit (CO) competed for the championship.

Selanne, who scored the game-winning goal, was not the only member of the team with NHL experience. Craig Johnson, a former Duck, coaches the Eagles, and Craig’s son Ryan plays for the team as well.

He Has Also Completed His Military Service

Leevi, Selanne’s youngest son, completed his military duty in 2019. The delighted father has shared various photographs from his son’s service days, including his last day in the Finnish Army.

Similarly, Leevi marked the end of a chapter in his life on Instagram, where he shared a series of photos from his service spring.

Career

Selänne spent three seasons with Jokerit in the SM-liiga before joining the NHL. The Winnipeg Jets selected him with the 10th overall choice in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He spent four years with the Jets. On February 6, 1996, he was dealt to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim along with Marc Chouinard and a fourth-round draught pick in exchange for first-round draught picks Chager and Oleg Tverdovsky, as well as a third-round selection in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

He was teamed up with Paul Kariya. In 1997, they helped the Mighty Ducks make their first playoff berth. They defeated the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round, but were eliminated in the second round by the Detroit Red Wings.

Anaheim was last in the Western Conference in March 2001. On March 5, they dealt Selänne to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Jeff Friesen, Steve Shields, and a second-round draught pick in 2003.

Later on, the Sharks were unable to make the playoffs. They were attempting to make changes, and the New Jersey Devils were interested in acquiring Selänne in a trade. However, because Selänne’s contract stated that he could not be traded, they were unable to reach an agreement. He would eventually sign a one-year, $5.8 million contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Former teammate Paul Kariya joined him there.

After a year, he had knee difficulties and required surgery. The 2004-05 NHL season was cancelled due to a labour dispute. He took advantage of the time to recover from his surgery. During the 2005-06 NHL season, he returned to the league.

When the season began, he was not signed by any team. He chose to sign with the Anaheim Ducks and return to Anaheim. During the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals, the Ducks defeated the Ottawa Senators in five games to win the Stanley Cup.

Selänne revealed that the 2013-14 NHL season will be his final in the league.

On May 16, 2014, he played his final NHL game as the Los Angeles Kings eliminated the Ducks from the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs. Following the game, he skated a final lap around the rink, where he was applauded by fans, teammates, and opponents.
