Voula And Trevor: Thanasi Kokkinakis Parents Are Greek Immigrants

Voula and Trevor Kokkinakis, Thanasi’s parents, immigrated to Australia from Greece. He was born soon after, and the tennis star is also a Greek citizen.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has put Kokkinakis in the top 69 in the world in singles, which he first achieved on June 8, 2015. He won an ATP Tour championship in singles and reached the third round of the 2015 French Open, his greatest Major singles performance.

Thanasi has a career-high doubles ranking of No. 17 in the world, which he obtained on October 31, 2022. He won the championship following the 2022 Australian Open and advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Miami Open alongside countryman Nick Kyrgios.

Voula and Trevor Kokkinakis Are Thanasi Kokkinakis’ Parents

Voula and Trevor Kokkinakis, Thanasi’s parents, were also tennis players. He got his athletic DNA from his athletic father and mother.

Kokkinakis’ mother is Voula Kokkinakis, and his father is Trevor Kokkinakis. His father is an engineer, and his mother is a stay-at-home mom or homemaker.

Trevor is from Kalamata, Greece, and is also known as Tryfon. At the same time, his mother, Voula or Paraskevi, originates from Tripoli, Greece, as they are both immigrants from Greece.

But there’s some uncertainty over Thanasi’s nationality. He was born in Adelaide to Greek immigrant parents, hence he has Australian citizenship. Kokkinakis is a Greek citizen and a resident of Perivolakia Pylos.

Thanasi’s parents are extremely supportive. He would not be where he is today if his parents had not encouraged and supported him throughout his sports adventure.

Thanasi Kokkinakis Siblings: Christina And Pan Kokkinakis

Trevor and Voula Kokkinakis have three children. Panayoti Kokkinakis, Christina Kokkinakis, and Thanasi Kokkinakis are their names.

Thanasi appears to be Mr. and Mrs. Kokkinakis’s youngest kid, as he already has a sister named Christina and an older brother named Panayoti, also known as Pan.

Thanasi recounts being inspired to participate in athletics by his older brother. He started playing tennis with his brother Panayoti when he was about 7 or 8 years old. And he has now established a successful career in this sport.

Nonetheless, he appears to be close to his sister and brother, with whom he has a tight bond.

Thanasi has over 300,000 Instagram followers as @the kokk1. And, as we can see from one of the photographs with him tagged, his brother Panayoti has roughly 500 followers on a private account called @snappypan.

Scrolling through his Instagram, we can see the couple cradling two preterm kids in their arms in December 2021, which is both heartwarming and terrible.

Wil mentions the babies called Frederico Tryfon De Souza and Elias Lourenco De Souza in the post. And he keeps writing, telling those babies to rest sweetly and assuring them that they would always be remembered.

JUNIOR CAREER

Kokkinakis had a breakthrough as a junior when he won the 12 year old National Lawn Tennis competition in Mildura in March 2008, defeating Joshua Bray 6-1, 6-2 in the final. This was a significant stride forward after being eliminated in the round of 16 of the previous 12 year old National Hardcourt Tennis Tournament in January 2008 by Lochlan Greene in straight sets. Nick Kyrgios won this tournament.

Kokkinakis won a wildcard into the 2013 Australian Open juniors competition and advanced to the final, defeating the 12th, 2nd, and 11th seeds along the way. He faced fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios in the final. He eventually lost 7-6(4) 6-3 after having two set points in the first set.

He returned to competitive play in June, reaching the third round of the boys’ singles and winning the boys’ doubles with Nick Kyrgios.

Kokkinakis lost the US Open Boys’ Singles final in three sets to Borna ori, 6-3 3-6 1-6. Kokkinakis achieved a career high junior ranking of 10 as a consequence of the result.

Despite being qualified, Kokkinakis chose not to compete in junior events in 2014, instead focusing on the men’s tour.

Kokkinakis began his professional career at the age of 14 in 2011 in the Australia F3 Futures event, where he lost 6-8 in the third set tiebreak to Leon Frost. The following week, he won his first professional race against Kento Takeuchi at the Australia F4 event. He was then defeated in the second round by Michael Venus.

Kokkinakis suffered a stress fracture in his back during the Australian Open boys’ final, which sidelined him until mid-2013. He then returned to competition, competing in Futures events in the Czech Republic, Canada, and the United States, the highlight of which was a quarterfinal appearance in the Canada F5 event. Kokkinakis raced in two Challenger races in the United States in September and October. The first was the Napa Valley Challenger in 2013, where he qualified and advanced to the second round before losing to Bradley Klahn while leading by a set. Then, in 2013, he qualified for and advanced to the second round of the Sacramento Challenger.

He lost again, after leading Nick Kyrgios by a set. As a result of this, his ranking rose to a career high of 655. In October, Kokkinakis and Benjamin Mitchell won the Melbourne Challenger, defeating Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington in straight sets in the final. This boosted his doubles ranking by 453 spots, bringing him to a career high of 505. He also advanced to the second round of singles. He appeared like he was going to pull off a major upset after claiming the first set against Matt Ebden before dropping the next two. He concluded the year by losing in straight sets to James Duckworth in the second round of the 2013 Traralgon Challenger.

Despite missing half of the year due to injuries, Kokkinakis finished 2013 ranked 627th.
