2012

Mardle also tried to qualify for the 2012 PDC World Championship through the PDPA qualifier in Wigan, but was defeated 5-0 in the Preliminary Round by Ken Dobson.

He continued his commentary career by co-commentating on every night of the televised PDC World Darts Championship in 2012. He has since become a regular on all Sky televised tournaments, both as a match commentator and as the show’s main pundit in the studio.

During the World Championships, Mardle also has regular segments where he rewards crowd participation with a “Wayne’s World” T-shirt, whether it’s dancing, fancy dress outfits, or funny signs.

2011

Mardle made his PDC commentating debut at the 2011 PDC World Darts Championship, appearing in a few matches alongside Sid Waddell. He also co-hosted some of the event with Dave Clark, and he and Rod Harrington and Eric Bristow predicted some of the match results.

Apart from weeks 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, and 14, Mardle continued his analysing and commentary career in the 2011 Premier League Darts.

2010

Mardle had played in every Premier League until 2010, with the exception of 2007 due to poor form and disappointing results. He finished at the bottom of the table in both years, 2005 and 2006. (Players who come bottom of the League are said to have won the “Mardle Cup,” named in honour of him).

Mardle’s poor form continued in the 2010 PDC World Championship, where he was defeated 3-0 by Jyhan Artut on a low average of 72. Mardle’s ranking continued to fall, and he was as low as 85th in the Order of Merit.

2009

During the 2009 Premier League season, Mardle had a string of bad luck. He missed week ten due to a virus after scoring just four points in his first nine games. He was supposed to return the following week, but he was admitted to the hospital the day before the games due to mumps.

With five matches remaining in the final three weeks, one more missed week would mean Mardle’s elimination from the competition. Unfortunately for Mardle, this occurred. Mardle was re-admitted to hospital after being cleared for a week twelve return and, in accordance with tournament rules, was removed from the tournament. His tournament results were also thrown out.

Mardle is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur and was featured in the May 2009 issue of Hotspur, the football club’s official club magazine.

2008

Following his impressive performance at the World Championships, Mardle was confirmed as the Sky Sports wildcard entry to the 2008 PDC Darts Premier League in January 2008.

While some questioned the decision, Mardle proved them wrong with a steady campaign that saw him finish fifth, missing out on the Play-Offs by only two legs to Adrian Lewis.

2007

Despite a poor 2006 and 2007, he found his form at the 2008 World Championship, breaking Taylor’s record of reaching every PDC World Darts Championship final by defeating him 5 sets to 4 in a quarter-final match after trailing 3-0. Following his victory, he expressed his joy at finally defeating “The Power” on television.

Mardle was then eliminated in the semi-finals for the fourth time in his PDC career by Kirk Shepherd, a 21-year-old qualifier. He later said this was the worst defeat of his career, citing his own attitude as “disgusting”.

2006

Mardle published a darts book (co-written with Ian Spragg) titled “Hawaii 501 – Life As A Darts Pro” in 2006. It follows him through the ups and downs of his life as a professional darts player in 2005.

2004

Despite reaching fifth in the World Rankings and consistently performing well in the World Championship (reaching the semi-finals in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008), he never won a major tournament as a PDC member.
