Winky D, a popular Zimbabwean musician, may have to cancel his scheduled album launch following reports that his manager has been called in for questioning by the Zimbabwe Republic Police

Journalist Maynard Manyowa revealed on social media that the manager is currently being held at CID Law and Order in Harare Central Police Station, and it is uncertain if he is being detained.

Winky D: Is He Arrested?

The source also raised concerns that people offended by Winky D’s songs may cause violence, and the police do not have adequate resources to maintain peace, law, and order at the show, as their resources are stretched thin over the New Year.

The police may put forward other reasons for cancelling the show, and it remains to be seen if they will take this route.

Efforts to get official comments from senior police figures have been unsuccessful, as none of the three individuals who can speak on behalf of the police as a whole are picking up calls.

Government Denies Blackout of Winky D’s Songs

Earlier, the government denied reports that they had ordered a blackout of Winky D’s songs and asked Power FM to pull his interview. However, the scheduled interview did not happen.

The popular musician, whose real name is Wallace Chirumiko, was also supposed to hold an interview with Star FM, but it was allegedly cancelled on government insistence.

Sources claim that the government has even gone further to instruct all radio stations to stop playing his music, especially the new album.

Reasons for Government’s Actions

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is reportedly unnerved by Winky D’s new album, “Njema,” which has songs that the government perceives as politically charged.

One song in particular, “Ijipita,” is said to have thrown the ruling Zanu PF government into panic, leading them to move to ban Winky D’s music.

The Ministry of Information, however, denies that the government was involved in cancelling the interview, calling it “unfounded falsehoods.” They advised the media to fact-check with them on related matters.
