You (Season 4): Unraveling the Mystery Behind Malcolm’s Murder
The highly anticipated season 4 of “You” has finally been released, and fans can’t help but wonder about the fate of one particular character – Malcolm. However, the fact that he has no recollection of downloading the messaging application used by the mysterious stranger raises some red flags. Could it be possible that he was set up by someone else and is not responsible for the murder?
Joe’s History
Joe’s past is shrouded in mystery, and the events of season 4 only add to the confusion. From his history of abuse and neglect as a child to his serial killing spree, it’s clear that he is a troubled individual with a troubled past. However, it’s also possible that there may be more to the story than meets the eye.
In previous seasons, it was hinted that Joe may have been a victim of circumstance and that his actions were driven by something beyond his control. Could it be possible that he was manipulated into murdering Malcolm?
The Killer’s Identity
The killer’s identity remains a mystery, but a few clues might help us piece together the puzzle. The mysterious stranger’s use of a messaging application that automatically deletes messages as soon as they are read shows certain technical know-how. Could it be someone from Joe’s past seeking revenge for his past crimes? Or could it be someone entirely new with a different motive altogether?

You (Season 4): Who Is The Real Murderer Of Malcolm?
All indications point to Joe Goldberg returning to his old ways, particularly in light of the fact that Malcolm dies in Joe’s house, in addition to the fact that we have a quite extensive list of persons he has killed in the past.
When a third character weighs in with compliments regarding the manner in which Joe disposes of Malcolm’s body, however, we rapidly learn that there may be an entirely different person responsible for Malcolm’s death.
It has come to light that the Eat the Rich Killer was the one responsible for the death of the professor…who just so happens to be Rhys Montrose (Ed Speleers).1
Rhys and Joe both come from challenging backgrounds and aren’t totally enamored by the luxury that surrounds them, which may explain why Joe appears to be somewhat at ease in Rhys’s company (as the nickname shows).
Rhys chronicles his rise from humble beginnings to a place of such illustrious achievement as Oxford University in his autobiography. Even more surprising is the fact that he’s considering a run for mayor of London.
However, it is probably for the best if those who aspire to be in governmental office are not murderers.

In the fifth episode, we get some new information about Rhys, and it seems that he is on to Joe and his history of criminal activity. (I suppose this explains why they appeared to have such a powerful connection.)

At the end of the episode that concluded the first half of the season, Joe declared to Rhys in the midseason finale, “Whatever your great ambitions are, I need to stop you before you can hurt another soul and pull mine down with you.” Now, we were forewarned that life on this side of the pond would be very different from what we were used to!
If the program is picked up for a fifth season, there will most certainly be even more mayhem (and deaths) in store for viewers in the second half of the fourth season and in You season 5 overall.
