Fee security in private engineering colleges comes under HRD ministry’s observation

Following the government’s demonetization decision to chain the menace of black money, the HRD ministry has been focusing on making many of its own institutions go cashless. The fee security in some of the private engineering colleges has come under HRD Ministry’s observation, with complaints of the institutes critical advance fees from students. It is learnt that some of these colleges have collected advance fees from students for succeeding years, which is not the usual practice, an official said. Such a practice is not as per the norms. It also needs to be seen whether any of these transactions have been made to park black money, he said .A source said the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is looking at the affair and if the need arises, the details may be forwarded to the authorities concerned.


Income Tax detects Rs 3,185 cr black income; seizes Rs 86 cr new notes

Over Rs 3,185 crore of undisclosed income has been detected while Rs 86 crore worth new notes have been seized by the Income Tax department as part of its country-wide operations against black money hoarders post the demonetization of two high value currencies by the government. Official sources said the taxman carried out a total of 677 search, survey and enquiry operations under the board of the Income Tax Act since the note ban was declared on November 8, even as the department has issued over 3,100 notices to various entities on charges of tax evasion and hawala-like dealings.
