Martin didn’t start curling until he was 19, despite the fact that his father was one of the most accomplished players in the history of the sport.

Prior to that, he had spent his high school years playing hockey with the Beaumont Chiefs.

He participated in the 2008 CIS/CCA Curling Championships as a member of the University of Alberta curling team, where he was responsible for throwing the second stones for the team that Brandon Klassen skipped.

  • The COVID-19 outbreak that swept over Alberta led to the postponement of the provincial championship in 2021.
  • Team Bottcher was selected to represent Alberta at the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier because they are the current holders of the provincial championship.
  • At the Brier, they had a record of 6–2 and placed in second place in their pool during the round-robin portion of the competition. They improved their record to 9–3 in the championship pool, which earned them the third spot in the playoffs.
  • There, they defeated Matt Dunstone’s Team Saskatchewan in the semifinals to advance to their fourth consecutive Brier championships.
