Annika Charlotta Sorenstam was born in Stockholm County, Sweden, on October 9, 1970.

Her father is a retired IBM employee, and her mother previously worked in a bank. Charlotta, Annika’s sister, became an expert golfer and now coaches at her sister’s golf academy.

Annika’s passion for golf began when she was 12 years old. She was a member of the Swedish national team from 1987 to 1992 before moving on to the University of Arizona, where she won multiple titles and the world amateur championship.

Her amateur career was a huge success, and she went on to win three tournaments on the Swedish Golf Tour in 1990.

She became the first non-American freshman to win the individual NCAA Division I Championship during a collegiate event in Tokyo.
