Brett Rypien comes from a sporting family; his father, Tim Rypien, was a minor-league baseball player. His father, Tim, is a professional baseball player who reached Triple-A at Shadle Park, and he and his uncle Mark attended the same high school.

Brett, a four-year starter, broke the previous state high school passing records held by Kellen Moore. He then transferred to Boise State, where he started four football seasons and broke all of Kellen Moore’s throwing records.

Because of his father’s professional baseball career, the football player has been playing with a baseball glove since he was two or three years old. He is also the cousin of former LFL quarterback Angela Rypien and the first cousin twice removed of late NHL enforcer Rick Rypien.

He was added to the active roster on September 25, 2020. On September 27, 2020, he replaced starter Jeff Driskel in a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his first appearance in a real game.

He completed his first eight passes for a total of 53 yards, but a game-ending interception sealed the 28-10 loss.
