India is 170th Country for Anaemia among Women Global Report

  • Indians ranked 170th in terms of aaeemia amongy women as per the Global Nutrition Report 2016 and 114th in terms of prevelance of unden-five stunting on March 31, 2017.
  • The targets art-childhood stunting : 40% reduction in the number of stunted children, childhood posting : reduce and maintain childhood Wasting to less than 5%, anemia in women reproductive age: achieve a 50% reduction of anemia in women of reproductive age.
  • A higher consumption of legumes (such as lentils, chickpeas, beans and peas) has the potential to lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 35%.
  • Legumes are a food group rich in B vitamins, contain different beneficial minerals—like calcium, potassium and magnesium.

List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India Updated

  • List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India updated. Now, total number of UNESCO World Heritage Site in India is.35 (1 mixed, 7 Natural and 27 Cultural). Until the end of 2004, World Heritage sites were selected on the basis of six cultural and four natural criteria.
  • A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place that is listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation as of special cultural or physical significance. World Heritage is the designation for places on Earth that are of outstanding universal value to humanity and as such, have been inscribed on the World Heritage List to be protected for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
  • Until the end of 2004, World Heritage sites were selected on the basis of six cultural and four natural criteria. The criteria are regularly revised by the Committee to reflect the evolution of the World Heritage concept itself.

India Ranked 87th on Energy Architecture Performance Index

  • India marginally improved its position to 87th place on a global energy architecture performance index, but ranks among the worst for pollution on March 22, 2017.
  • Switzerland topped the annual list released by Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF) and was followed by Norway, Sweden, Denmark and France in the top five.
  • India, just like China, boasts of a strong score on the indicator for diversification of import counterparts (5th), but its energy system continues to face some significant challenges, particularly in environmental sustainability (109th).
  • India has some of the lowest scores in the EAPI for C02 emissions from electricity production and PM2.5 levels (117th and 123rd, respectively).

4 Indian Cities among Cheapest to live in Globally

  • Four Indian citiesare among the cheapest to live in globally> while Singapore has been ranked as the most expensive for the fourth consecutive year, as per a report by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on March 20, 2017.
  • Bangalore (3rd place), Chennai (6th), Mumbai (7th) and New Delhi (10th) have been ranked by EIU among the 10 cheapest cities in the world.
  • The EIU’s Worldwide Cost of Living 2017 report (a ranking of the world’s major cities) said Asia is home to some of the world’s most expensive cities and also to many of the world’s cheapest cities.
  • The Worldwide Cost of Living is a bi-annual (twice yearly) EIU survey that compares more than 400 individual prices across 160 products and sendees.

India Ranked 148 in 2017 UN Women in Politics Map

  • India ranked 148 globally in terms of representation of women in executive government and parliament, according to a report published by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and UN Women.
  • The data published in the report Women in Politics 2017 Map showed that women make up only 11.8% (64 MPs) of the 542-member Lok Sabha and 11% (27) of the 245-member Rajya Sabha.
  • In terms of women Ministers, India ranks 88 with only five Ministers (18.5%) in the Cabinet. This level of gender representation among ministers is better than tZhe Asian average of 11% but far worse than the leader of the table, Indonesia, which gives 25.6% of its Ministerial positions to women.
