9th World Environmental Education Congress Held

  • 9th World Environmental Education Congress which takes place September 9-15, 2017 in Vancouver, BC (Canada).
  • The Work! Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) is an international congress addressing education for environment and sustainability. WEEC 2017 is the 9th congress and will feature the theme of Culture/ Environment : Weaving New Connections.
  • The congress is an international meeting point for everyone working with education for environment and sustainable future or who has an interest in the field.
  • WEEC 2017 will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the latest in environmental and sustainability education, to discuss with people from all over the world, to share your own work and to learn from others.

Second India-UAE Conference on Globalisation Held in Dubai

  • The second India-UAE conference on globalisation held at Dubai with an aim to promote cooperation between the two countries on March 20, 2017.
  • It organised by All India Management Association (AIMAI. the conference will be attended by leading industry figures from both countries to discuss strategies to win in a fast-changing world,
  • Health care innovation will be among the subjects discussed during the conference themed as Resetting Globalisation : Collaborating in a Fast Changing World.

Conference on Make in India Held in the USA

  • First-ever conference was held briinging together various constituencies that have an interest in India and discussing the latest developments and the best practices of doing business in India on March 24, 2017.
  • The two-day Houston India Conference was hosted by Asia Society Texas Center. The theme of the Conference is Make in India.
  • Conference was the brain child of the Consulate General of India in Houston, Dr. Ray in partnership with non-profit group India House, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston.
  • The central focus of the conference is to provide a collaboration platform and share todays India story with the audience in Texas who are interested in investing in India.

International Buddhist Conference Held at Rajgir

  • Dalai Lama inaugurated ‘International Conference on Buddhism in 21st Century’ at Rajgir on March 19, 2017.
  • The three-day conference, aimed at renewing contacts and discussing Buddhism’s perspectives and responses to global issues, is organised by the Union Ministry of Culture and the Nav Nalanda Mahavira University based in Nalanda (Bihar).
  • Over 400 spiritual leaders, erudite scholars and students from 30 different countries including Sri Lanka, Burma, Taiwan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Uganda (representing both the Sanskrit and Pali traditions) are participating in the conference.

International Vision Zero Conference on Occupational Safety and Health Held

  • Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated three-days International Vision Zero Conference on Occupational Safety and Health in New Delhi on March 14, 2017.
  • It is organised by Directorate General Factory Advice and Labour Institutes (DGFASU), government of India, Ministry of Labour and Employment and German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), Germany in association with International Social Security Association— Manufacturing, Construction and Mining.
  • The number of fatal accidents during the year 2014 was 1211, during the year 2013 was 1417, during the year 2012 was 1363 and during the year 2011 was 1433.
  • This falling trend in the number of accidents is despite the increase hi the number of factories during the same period, i.e., 323209 in 2011, 353684 in 2012, 340224 in 2013 and 361994 in 2014.

ORA Leaders’ Summit Held in Jakarta

  • The Vice-President of India led the Indian delegation to the first Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Leaders’ Summit held on March 7, 2017 in Jakarta to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Association.
  • Three documents were adopted during the Summit. The first was the IORA Concord that was signed by the Leaders and lays out the vision of IORA for the future, focussing hi particular on cooperation among the 21 IORA member states on maritime safety and security.
  • The two other documents adopted were the “Declaration on Preventing Violent Extremism and Countering Terrorism” and the “Action Plan of IORA for the next 5 years”.
  • More recently, India announced 12 major initiatives across a range of cross-cutting issues during the previous COM at Bah in October, 2016.
  • Four of these initiatives have already been implemented and rest are expected to be completed during the course of this year.
